He bent down and kissed the girl's fingertips, as lightly as a falling snowflake.

Once upon a time, a devil on the brink of death was tricked by a god and imprisoned in a cup, with only her shadow for company day after day.

The devil counted the days, waiting for someone to rescue her from this endless torment.

After the first four hundred years, her tears ran dry.

After the second four hundred years, her blood ran dry.

After the third four hundred years, her heart, too, was emptied.

Four times four hundred years passed. The devil was still trapped in the cup.

She had lost her tears, her blood, and her heart;

now only her shadow remained by her side.

At last, she realized that what she had clung to so desperately all this time was nothing but an empty illusion.

The bloodless, tearless devil wept wildly and made her final vow:

[If anyone ever comes to take me from this desperate prison, he will bear a thousand years of resentment. My shadow and I will kill him together!]

At last, someone came.

"My lord."

The handsome knight knelt on one knee, his mead-colored eyes overflowing with a radiance that could only be called devotion.

"Here, I offer you my loyalty."

Sixteen hundred years had passed. At last, someone picked up the cup, only to find it empty.

The devil had long since escaped, and despair had burned away every last memory.

All that remained was a beautiful, innocent girl, gazing silently at her visitor.

Only the shadow of resentment seethed at her feet.

Set during the Fourth Holy Grail War, with changes that don't involve anything else.

A starved-for-love, tsundere, expressionless young lady x a straightforward, naturally flirtatious, cunning, devoted dog of a knight. Two clueless idiots in love, sticking together without realizing it.

The heroine is in very poor condition, both mentally and physically. She's starved for love and insecure, a tsundere, dark-minded Mary Sue type, with a model for reference.

The hero needs no introduction: a ridiculously perfect-looking, terribly unlucky Lancer.

My take on the Holy Grail War. The author's notes will provide background and explanations, and I'll do my best to make it enjoyable even for readers unfamiliar with the original.
