Thinking she'd escaped disaster, she had just started packing to flee at once when he smiled and pinched her cheek, then fed her a Heart-Eating Pill that would force her to obey. He told her to keep his secret safe, or she'd die horribly.

She wanted to get the antidote by making him soften toward her, and also hoped he wouldn't be the first to stab her once he became a villain in the future.

She gave him a Red Hall Flower watered with immortal dew. When he was blind, she carried him along the mist-shrouded path haunted by ghostly cries. And at the Cloud Path Terrace, she created for him the one-of-a-kind Spring of All Sounds talisman.

Later, beneath the Lost Mountain reflected in water, he carried her up the three thousand steps of the human world, a journey promised to them in this life and the next.

Seeing his gaze grow gentler and gentler, Xie Chaoheng nearly believed she had succeeded.

But in the Fusang divine ruins, the young man was filled with murderous intent. Sword in hand, he stepped over bones and coldly approached her.

Xie Chaoheng finally understood that he was born heartless, and would never be moved, no matter what she did.

Bright red blood trickled across her brows, eyes, and lips. He gazed at her, enthralled, then laughed with delight. "I love you. You can stab me as many times as you want."

"Just don't ever leave me, in any lifetime."
