Then the emperor of the Central Plains devised a plan to pacify the Rong and was determined to expand his territory.

The Miao territory had no choice but to offer up its princess to sue for peace.

Separated from the insects, snakes, medicinal herbs, and painted traditions of the Miao territory, Yuan Zhihuan was forced to learn the language and writing of the Central Plains.

By the day she met the emperor of the Central Plains, she still hadn't learned much.

She even ended up exposing...

The life-saving Gu her mother had given her.

The emperor was mercurial, leaving Yuan Zhihuan terrified and uneasy.

Yet the very emperor she'd been wary of earnestly told her, word by word, "For this one lifetime, I will love only you."
