Kuriyama Nao was transported to the world of Detective Conan.
The good news was that she had one of the most secure jobs imaginable.
Career-track officer, First Investigation Division, newly promoted assistant inspector.
The bad news was that she was a disposable background character who got killed off as soon as she appeared.
But! An app called "The Errand Service" System was willing to give her a second chance at life. In exchange, Kuriyama Nao had to work for The Errand Service in between her own story scenes, earning life points to stay alive.
To reboot her paper-thin life, Kuriyama Nao happily agreed.
The Errand Service was a cross-dimensional errand-running app in closed beta, and Kuriyama Nao was currently in charge of its Detective Conan section. The System would assign her orders at irregular intervals. These included, but weren't limited to: picking up sandwiches from a trendy cafe, taste-testing ramen so good it could kill you, taking photos for the elusive cross-dressing master thief Kaito Kid, and delivering a bento to Ferris wheel gondola number 72...
And so Kuriyama Nao began her many-hat life as a paper character, solving cases at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department by day and running errands on the side at night. Her life went like this:
*
Late at night, Kuriyama Nao had just finished a report and was about to clock out when the System automatically chimed in her head:
"Ding! You have a new order: Don't drink and drive, don't drive and drink. Designated driver for a Porsche 356A."
"Wha?"
Me, a police officer, driving the big boss of a criminal organization home?
*
The closed beta was such a success that The Errand Service decided to expand into the local market. Kuriyama Nao received her very first local order.
System: "Congratulations on receiving the biggest order in history: an exorbitantly priced hit job, eliminate 'Scotland.' The order comes from a user calling himself Rum."
"...No way!!"
[Before You Read]
· Detective Conan only, with Toru as the romantic pairing
· The timeline is my own, and character appearances have been rearranged
· I didn't write the final event (chapters 56-61) well, sorry. If you mind a weak ending, read with caution!
Here's a little preview of my upcoming neighboring story, The Rice Ball Boy Picks Up a Little Mute.
It's a short story, mainly Jujutsu Kaisen.
*
The Rice Ball Boy picked up a little mute.
The little mute couldn't speak, and the Rice Ball Boy only spoke in rice ball language.
The little mute: "..."
The Rice Ball Boy: "Kelp."
The little mute: "."
The Rice Ball Boy: "Bonito flakes."
The little mute: "!"
The Rice Ball Boy: "Tuna mayo!"
They communicated across every language barrier.
Luckily, thanks to the Rice Ball Boy's tireless efforts, the little mute finally spoke her first words to him: "K-kelp."
Oh no, he'd taught her to talk just like him...
*
To help the little mute learn normal human language, the Rice Ball Boy had no choice but to ask one of his classmates from Jujutsu High to teach her how to speak normally.
With his classmate's selfless help, the little mute finally said her first words that weren't part of rice ball language: "Panda."
Still, it was an international language.
After entrusting the little mute to Panda, who could speak human language, the Rice Ball Boy finally felt comfortable going on a mission with Maki.
Six months later, the mission was over.
As soon as the Rice Ball Boy returned to Jujutsu High, he saw the little mute crouching on the ground, tilting her head as she asked the Sea Urchin Boy's Divine Dogs, "Hello, can you understand human language?"
*
The little mute met the Rice Ball Boy.
The Rice Ball Boy seemed to be an alien from some rice ball planet.
Because all he could speak was rice ball language.
"Kelp, salmon, bonito flakes, cod roe, tuna mayo!"
The little mute couldn't understand rice ball language and didn't like talking.
But she still worked hard to learn it so she could understand the Rice Ball Boy.
"Kelp" seemed to mean hello.
"Salmon" meant yes or agreement, but "salmon roe" meant a question.
"Kombu" and "mustard greens" were both ways of offering comfort, like asking if someone was okay.
"Tuna mayo" meant that something needed attention, that it was important and action needed to be taken.
But sometimes the Rice Ball Boy would yell, "Tuna mayo!" when he was angry.
So the Rice Ball Boy being angry meant something needed attention.
Action needed to be taken.
Through her tireless efforts, the little mute finally figured out the full meaning of rice ball language.
To prove to the Rice Ball Boy that she had mastered it, she plucked up her courage and spoke her first sentence in rice ball language.
"K-kelp."
The Rice Ball Boy didn't seem very happy.
Had she misunderstood what kelp meant?
Theme: Take responsibility bravely and strive to be a young person who makes a difference.
The reason why Big Brother changed was because a cat replaced him?
This amount of information is enough to last me three days and three nights.
It's a waste of time. This is why I don't like subscribing to serials. The gambling element is too great.
What the hell, ah, hurry up and arrange for him to go offline. This guy is so disgusting.
It's pretty bald, but if you have any inspiration, can you add a sequel?
Why are you so fantasy all of a sudden?
The plot is starting to get weird
When will it be unlocked... The child has been waiting all night... [Crying] [crying] [crying]
Ha! Have a big meal during the Mid-Autumn Festival. I ate it before locking it
What, it's actually over
