[The character names are temporarily borrowed from another blurb. I'll change them when I start posting.]
Shi Hua was brought back to the Shi family at sixteen. For the past ten years, as the real daughter, her parents kept their distance so they wouldn't upset their adopted daughter by getting too close to her. Her older brother, who had secretly fallen for the adopted daughter, had always loathed her.
It was fine. Shi Hua didn't like them either. She liked Pei Huai.
The only good thing about returning to the Shi family was that she could marry into the Pei family.
Shi Hua thought Pei Huai was the entire meaning of her life. She believed they would marry and build a happy family together.
Then one day, she awakened and was bound to a System, only to discover that she was the love-struck supporting female character in a CEO romance novel.
It was an old-fashioned tale of domineering love and forced possession. The CEO hero, Pei Huai, fell in love at first sight with his nephew's girlfriend, the campus belle at A University, and stole her away. As a pawn in a marriage alliance, Shi Hua was written as a vain, affected, love-struck woman who was deeply obsessed with the hero and hounded him relentlessly. He eventually kicked her aside and called off the engagement, turning her into a stepping stone for the hero and heroine's romance. In the end, her family went bankrupt, and she was sold overseas.
After reading the plot and recalling her unhappy ten years, Shi Hua said gravely, "It's getting cold. Time to make the Shi family go bankrupt."
She would start preparing now, and run off with the money before the Shi family went under.
[Beep. Host detected slacking-off tendencies!]
The System produced a critical illness notice and threatened her: "As an awakened consciousness, you must keep up your love-struck persona for the next three months. Otherwise, to maintain the coherence of the plot, you will be forcibly erased."
Shi Hua: "?"
A mere death threat? Did it think she was scared?
System: "You..."
Shi Hua immediately changed her WeChat nickname to [The Most Devoted in High Society] and filled her Moments with gushing praise for Pei Huai.
System: "."
The System, not even three years old, decided this rebellious twenty-six-year-old was a handful and promptly called in backup, binding Shi Hua to a top-tier mentor as well.
Shi Hua, who had inexplicably formed a mental link with a ridiculously handsome man: "..."
Why would a System in a romance world bind a big shot from a no-CP channel as her mentor?
And why did the System want to claim her as its kid, while the big shot's cat inexplicably became her second older sister and his snake her fourth older brother? And the owl...
Forget it. No one else could be relied on. She'd do it herself.
Before long, everyone in the book thought Shi Hua, the girl everyone hated, had changed. She'd become even more annoying!
The Shi family.
"Young Master, Miss has maxed out her card again!"
"Young Master, Miss bought an island yesterday. Today she bought a luxury yacht and said it was for President Pei's birthday!"
At this rate, she'd bankrupt the family sooner or later. The eldest young master could take no more and kicked open the door to Shi Hua's study. "Shi Hua, enough with the lovesick act!"
The study was covered in steamy kissing photos of him and the adopted daughter. Shi Hua looked up innocently. "Brother, you wouldn't want Mom and Dad and your future sister-in-law to see these, would you?"
Eldest Young Master: "...Keep using the card."
The Pei family.
Pei Huai looked at the birthday cake the campus-belle heroine had made herself and asked the butler coldly, "Where's Shi Hua?"
In previous years, Shi Hua had always made his birthday cake herself. He'd wanted her to see it and compare it to what a normal cake should look like.
The butler looked conflicted. "Back to you, President, Miss Shi is throwing a birthday party for you aboard a luxury yacht on the Pu River."
Pei Huai: "?"
He was at the Pei residence, so why was she celebrating his birthday on a yacht?
The next day, Shi Hua stepped off the yacht beaming and went back to playing the most devoted woman in high society.
Pei Huai stared at the hickey on her neck, eyes bloodshot with fury. "On my birthday, you dared to be with another man..."
"Huai, listen to me! I did it all for you!"
Shi Hua pointed at the campus-belle heroine standing beside Pei Huai, speaking with heartfelt devotion and tearful eyes. "I know you like her, so last night I arranged for her boyfriend to come aboard, too. Because I love you, I'm willing to bring you two together!"
"I know I only lost my chastity, but she lost her love!"
"This is the birthday gift I prepared for you. Surprised? Touched?"
Bang! Pei Huai crushed the wineglass in his hand, blood running from his palm.
What a freaking surprise, getting cheated on!

The three-month period came to an end.
Shi Hua took her enormous fortune, cut off all contact, and went with the big shot's family, whom she'd gotten close to, to the island they'd bought. There, she happily started a new chapter in her life.
The copy of Three-Month Critical Illness Notice she'd "accidentally" left in her room made everyone in both the Shi and Pei families lose it.
The Shi family spent a fortune contacting medical institutions, willing to bankrupt themselves if that's what it took to cure their only daughter.
The hero and the second male lead were red-eyed and frantically searched everywhere, just to see Shi Hua one more time.
* Amateur writing, silly comedy, a fluffy little story to enjoy without thinking too hard
* Pei Huai is not the male lead. All the men in the original story are trash and scumbags. The male lead has a one-sided crush.
* The heroine's motto is: "If I'm unhappy, none of you get to be happy either. If I'm happy, you still don't get to be happy."
* The CP is the mentor, a retired no-CP infinite-worlds big shot. His family has lots of little ones, so this is an unconventional child-rearing story (the heroine is the kid being raised by the kids).
