Synopsis
Yan Qi is a little vagrant from Lizhou. Orphaned at a young age, she has spent years earning a living by washing clothes for others. She was born with a lovely face, but while fleeing south, she was unfortunately slashed by a thug. From then on, she was disfigured.
She had been living a life where everyone chased her away and she barely had enough to eat, until a twist of fate led her to save the county magistrate while he was drunk. The kindhearted magistrate took her into his residence as a maid.
Life in his residence was very comfortable. She had plenty to eat and drink, and little work to do. He taught Yan Qi to read and write, and even healed her disfigured face.
The young girl gazed at him with growing tenderness and shyness. A seed of affection slowly began to sprout in her heart.
Lu Hongshi was an upright and principled man, disciplined and scrupulous in his conduct. He passed the imperial examinations at the age of twenty-three, but held fast to his principles, willing to offend the powerful men at court. As a result, he was demoted to remote Lizhou to serve as a lowly county magistrate.
At first, he took Yan Qi in purely out of compassion, and because she had saved his life.
So when it came down to choosing between the people of the city and her, he gave her up without hesitation, handing her over to someone else.
She clutched his sleeve tightly, tears streaming down her face. Her eyes glistened as she pleaded, "My lord, don't leave Yan Qi behind..."
But he pried her fingers off one by one.
Later, dressed in palace robes, Yan Qi looked down at him as he knelt before her, smiling brightly. "Didn't Lord Lu die defending the city? How did you come back to life?"
Their connection should have ended that night. But who could have guessed that three days later, she would once again put on a pitiful expression and lean softly against him, her slender fingers brushing his belt?
"I beg Your Lordship to take pity on me."
By day, he was the Emperor's tutor, and she was the Noble Consort, the wife of his student.
At night, Lu Hongshi pinned her to the phoenix bed and bent down to capture her red lips. "Your Highness, take pity on me as well."
She murmured in a soft voice, "You always know how to wear me out."
Lord Lu, who had never been interested in women and had considered romance beneath him, never imagined that one day he would grow bold enough to steal a woman from the Emperor.
And he won.
Bonus Scene
Yan Qi: "Women and petty men are difficult to deal with. Confucius was talking nonsense!"
Old Lu: "Wife, show Master Kong some respect."
Yan Qi put her hands on her hips and pouted. "Who's greater, Master Kong or me?"
Old Lu: "You are."
[The male lead did not abandon the female lead! He did not abandon the female lead! See the main story for details.]
1. One-on-one romance, both leads are each other's first love, happy ending. Neither is an especially strong or capable lead; they're both pretty useless.
2. The female lead is fifteen and the male lead is twenty-five, with a ten-year age gap.
3. The female lead starts out as an insecure, ugly duckling, then becomes an unparalleled beauty.
4. The male lead is a traditional Confucian scholar. Once he falls for the female lead, he instantly turns into a devoted husband who spoils his wife like crazy.
5. The second male lead is the crown prince and the male lead's student. He's the gloomy, obsessive type, hopelessly lovesick to the extreme, and completely unhinged.
Coming soon: Years of Red Lotus, a dashing young gentleman from Jiangnan and a gentle, reserved concubine-in-waiting
Saving a childhood friend, his darkened white moonlight
An alternate Southern Dynasty
Theme: Home is wherever the heart finds peace.
I found such a niche article, the setting is so attractive hahaha
Is the heroine interested in the second male lead? I feel like she won't resist if the second male lead kisses her.
Finished spreading flowers!!!!
It's finished. I rarely follow books that are not serialized. It's so good. I like Yanyan [Let Me Kangkang]
