Su Bao'er dislikes the law firm's newly appointed partner. He's arrogant about his talent and never holds his tongue. Just looking at him is irritating.
Si Hang feels the same way. His new subordinate is fiery and scatterbrained. And then there's that night she bit him while they were kissing. The wound still aches faintly.
Nobody takes their secret relationship seriously. Their coworkers only know that the new boss and Su Bao'er are completely incompatible.
At a company dinner, the two are separated. During a game, everyone is asked what they would do to make sure they both survived if they were on a sinking ship with the boss.
The adults all respond smoothly and flatteringly, declaring their loyalty and offering to protect the boss with their own lives.
Only Su Bao'er cracks jokes, half in jest: “I can swim, so I’d abandon ship and escape. As for the boss, even married couples abandon each other when disaster strikes.”
Later, when a storm hits her life, she really does abandon ship and run.
Si Hang drives a thousand miles to chase after her. When he catches up, her blind date is taking her home.
For the first time, he suffers a setback with a woman. He pins her against the wall and grips her chin, his voice fierce: “Have you got no conscience? You think I’m like you? Don’t even think I’ll leave you behind. I’m getting on this sinking ship of yours, whether you like it or not.”
