I'm an ordinary person living in the Exalting Sanctum, a diligent medical officer at the Alchemy Commission. I work three days on and two days off, have a full benefits package, and am healthy, happy, and content.
One job isn't enough to support a family, so I moonlight as an underground doctor. I'm highly skilled and have a steady clientele. A few people keep coming to me for treatment, which gives me quite a headache.
My first patient is the legendary Sword Champion of the Xianzhou, a woman who keeps her eyes covered all day and loves to illuminate the myriad rivers. She's my least favorite patient to treat. After every appointment, I have to call in a construction crew to make repairs.
My second patient is a guard who carries a blade. Apparently, he used to be a craftsman. I believed it, because he looks like he knows his way around a hammer. (Sorry about your fingers.)
My third patient is a Xianzhou general, one of the Seven Arbiter-Generals. To be honest, I'm pretty afraid to treat him, because I seem to be an Emanator of Abundance...
My fourth patient is a Foxian pilot, cheerful and interesting, rich and generous. The only problem is that she always gets injured in some star system or other, then insists I go out to treat her.
My fifth patient is a little green dragon. I happened to rescue him from the Prison of Deep Seclusion while treating the general. I heard he's some kind of unforgivable criminal, but look, he has dragon horns and a tail! How could a little dragon be a bad person?
Anyway, I'm an utterly ordinary person practicing medicine on the Xianzhou. For convenience's sake, I claim I only have those patients, take their consultation fees, then head home after work to cuddle the dragon I picked up. Life is good.
But one day, my peaceful life suddenly fell apart.
Because my patients seem to have found out about one another...
Me, in a sorry state and wailing: If you're going to fight, take it outside! Don't go dying in my house, any of you!
*My take on a found-family comedy on the Xianzhou, a modern-day sitcom about the surviving High-Cloud Quintet and their very complicated relationships. The protagonist keeps wandering into the Quintet's dramatic scenes in all sorts of ways. Everyday life with some plot. The main story is told in third person.
*The High-Cloud Quintet are platonic. The romantic pairing is Dan Feng, with Dan Feng as the top.
*The protagonist is doted on by everyone, but apart from Dan Feng, the affection directed at him isn't romantic. It's comradeship and doctor-patient affection.
*Inspired by the lyrics of the Dan Heng fan song "The Moon Has Already Untied Its Drink": "As if yesterday's everything, the tides rising and falling, today leaves both sleeves empty."
I wanted the High-Cloud Quintet to have a happy ending so badly, so I wrote this.
*The timeline is set after the Shuhu Rebellion. Baiheng and Dan Feng are alive, so there are no Dan Heng or Bailu (and likewise no Astral Express Crew). This is an alternate-universe found-family story with a group retreat on the Xianzhou and a radically rewritten timeline.
Here's a plug for my original upcoming novel. Please save it if you're interested!
"Take Off His Bite-Proof Bandage" (Beastfolk / Nonhuman)
A flirtatious, ill-tempered, proud queen with maxed-out control issues x a seemingly reserved but actually untamable, fiercely possessive and devoted werewolf top
[Rekindled Love] [A Beauty Tames a Wolf] [He's a Wolf, But He Whines Around His Wife's Legs]
When Zheng Jinghuai came home, he found a tuft of gray fur flecked with blood by the door. Its sheen was soft, its texture strong, and it brought back the sensation of having stroked it up close once before.
He opened the door. The curtains on the living-room balcony were drawn shut. In the darkness, a pair of wary, crimson eyes glimmered. The tactical bite-proof bandage on that guy's face had come loose and sat crookedly.
The wolf who had abandoned him had returned to his home on this rainy night without anyone noticing. Covered in wounds, he was clutching Zheng Jinghuai's clothes and rolling around on the carpet.
This was already the fourth time that month Zheng Jinghuai had found traces of him at home.
To solve a murder case involving a beastfolk, the Beastfolk Administration parachuted in an investigator named Reis Orkan. Rumor had it he came from an aristocratic family. Though he was a beastfolk, he was as polite and well-mannered as a gentleman.
As the chief executive of the human fringe-crime system, Zheng Jinghuai was curious about the famous newcomer, until he spotted Reis's wolf ears and the gray tail hanging behind him.
When Reis saw Zheng Jinghuai, his expression was as calm as ever, without the slightest change. Out of sight of everyone else, however, his tail swept back and forth at high speed.
Reis calmly held out a hand, his voice steady and elegant. "A pleasure to work with you, Executive."
Zheng Jinghuai raised an eyebrow and returned the courtesy, as if the person he'd shared a bed and a mint cigarette with the night before weren't Reis.
At first, Zheng Jinghuai thought that wolf was just as honey-tongued, treacherous, heartless, and sly as ever. Later, he discovered that wolves could wag their tails, too.
In a quiet room, jealous fury at the sight of Zheng Jinghuai laughing with someone else tore away Reis's elegant mask. He pulled Zheng Jinghuai into his arms and kept licking the soft flesh of his neck, only to have his long muzzle seized.
The cold, beautiful man with peach-blossom eyes wore white. His smile was sly as he toyed with the wolf's sharp teeth and murmured:
"Reis, do you want to come back to me?"
Reis nodded.
"Then tell me, what are you to me?"
Reis thought for a moment, then lowered his head and crouched in front of him.
"Awooo."
He was his most loyal puppy.
"A long time ago, I used to keep a wolf. But the ungrateful thing abandoned me and ran away. One day, he returned without anyone noticing and smashed the expensive antique vase in my living room, worth tens of millions :)
I was furious, my smile icy, and decided to make him pay in bed."
[1] The top is an upright werewolf, with a tail, claws, a long muzzle, sharp teeth, and fur all over.
[2] In this setting, beastfolk use various devices to prevent berserking, including bite-proof bandages and other specially made equipment. Taking them off or damaging them can cause a lot of trouble, such as getting summoned for a chat.
[3] The bottom has a rule-based bug ability, a special weapon against beastfolk. The top is the strongest fighter among the beastfolk. Both are strong.
Theme: Practicing medicine to save lives and help the world is a doctor's faith
Isn't it serious enough to see the traces of the imperial bow (building wood fragments)! [Dog head]
It's all built by Jianmu, so what else can be serious about it?
The last extra chapter has been delayed for so long and I finally finished it. I secretly deleted all the extra chapters I promised to write. What does that mean?[666]
Oh my god, oh my god, I'm going to be broken [changed] Although I have accepted it a long time ago, at the end when everyone was picked up by new friends one by one, Jing Yuan was really an empty-nest old general. Although there were Fu Xuan and Yan Qing, he felt inferior, and my friends didn't feel so heavy. I was broken [changed]
I feel like if this thing wasn't so expensive, I would buy Dabai Mantou...
Have you not finished replacing it? The number of words cannot reach 40,000. When did you replace them all?
Keep dragging
Hey, hey, hey, the teacher promised a side story [crying], the child is going to starve to death.
Won't you write it? Didn't you say there is a bonus extra? [Question mark]
It always feels like it's coming to an abrupt end...
Will you also update the welfare extras? . . . . ?
