Jiang Ning, a snack-stall owner, suddenly died and was born into the world as a little ger in Xi He Village. A straw-thatched house, mud walls, older siblings with sallow faces and thin bodies, and a leaky roof. Jiang Ning stretched out his little hand from the earthen bed: Help him up, he could still hustle!
Supplies were terribly scarce in ancient times. With little cooking oil, Jiang Ning worked with his family to press oil using roasted ingredients. With no sugar, they made maltose. With no oven, he built a bread oven with his bare hands. No spices... Damn, as a transmigrator, it wouldn't feel right if he couldn't sell braised meat!
He kept hustling until he was eighteen. With his heart fluttering, Jiang Ning decided to find himself a husband. He wanted someone with a small, uncomplicated family, someone handsome, well-endowed, and whose skills he could train up over time!
Yet he couldn't take a single one of the men who came to propose seriously.
The matchmaker said one was honest, quiet, and hardworking. Jiang Ning: “You mean that brother-obsessed guy who gives all his earnings to his younger brother's schooling and doesn't have a single copper on him?”
The matchmaker said one came from a wealthy family and had a maternal uncle who was the village chief. Jiang Ning: “Could he be that mama's boy who's broken off four engagements because none of his fiancées' mothers were good enough?”
The matchmaker said one was a handsome scholar whose family doted on him. Jiang Ning: “No, wait. If the brother-obsessed guy won't do, they want me to support the brother instead? This family really plans to fleece me, huh?”
The little ger had a wicked tongue and was even more gossipy than the matchmakers. There wasn't a single thing in all the neighboring villages he didn't know!
“The only son of the county town's general store owner? You mean that business genius who took over the family business and ended up two hundred and eighty-seven taels in debt in three years?”
“The rich landlord from town? The old geezer whose four wives all died, and whose eldest son is two years older than me?”
A hunter from the neighboring village came down from the mountain, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, long legs, and a handsome face.
Jiang Ning's eyes lit up. Huh? There was a handsome guy in all these villages that he'd missed?
Shen Yunzhou died in the tenth year of the apocalypse, when zombies laid siege to the city. When he opened his eyes, he'd become a hunter in Liu Shu Gou Village. The mountains were rich in supplies, with pheasants, rabbits, mushrooms, and fruit. Shen Yunzhou ate and ate and ate and ate and ate!
After gorging himself for half a month, he ran into a matchmaker who wouldn't let go of him and insisted on finding him a husband. Shen Yunzhou had planned to refuse, but the moment he saw Jiang Ning, he fell for him.
◇Reader's Guide
1. This is a fictional setting, but the background is mainly based on the late Tang and Northern Song periods. The world has three genders: men, women, and gers. The bottom is a ger and can marry and have children, but childbirth won't appear in the main story; it will be mentioned in the extras.
2. The characters' thoughts at any point don't represent the author's values.
3. Mainly told from the bottom's perspective, but there will be some scenes from the top's perspective, especially when he's eating his fill in the mountains and living like a wild man. After he comes down the mountain, the story is mostly from the bottom's perspective.
4. The bottom falls for the top at first sight because of his looks; the top falls in love at first sight in both his lives.

Shen Ci transmigrated into a book with PDD, becoming the foil in a period novel.
Both he and the male lead, Meng Shu, were abandoned children. But Meng Shu was honorable, clever, and hardworking. He not only got into university, but also seized the opportunities of reform and opening up to make a fortune.
The original owner stole and caused trouble in the village, hated by people and dogs alike. Out of jealousy, he often made a fool of himself by acting up in front of the male lead, and eventually went to prison for theft.
Whenever anyone mentioned the original owner, they'd say, “They were both children without parents. Just look at Meng Shu, see how successful he's become!”
Shen Ci: ... Thanks, I guess.
Shen Ci had PDD as his golden finger, and had planned to stay far away from the protagonist and live a quiet, peaceful life of his own. But when the still-young Meng Shu fainted from hunger right in front of him, Shen Ci couldn't bear to leave him like that and stuffed half a piece of cake into his mouth.
Meng Shu had been a sensible child since he was young, but fate had never rewarded him for it.
When his mother could only take one child back to the city, she said, “You're a sensible child. Your little brother is still young.”
When his food rations were stolen and he wanted to report it, the brigade leader said, “You're a sensible child. Don't cause trouble for the village.”
In a life steeped in hardship, the only sweetness came from what Shen Ci fed him.
It was sweetness he'd never tasted before. Where had Shen Ci gotten cake, cookies, ham sausages, instant noodles, and self-heating hot pot from?!
