The St. Rudolph tennis club had been established less than two years ago. As its manager, one of Mizuki Hajime's greatest goals was to lead the club members to the national tournament. To that end, he searched everywhere for suitable players, drew up a strict training schedule, and worked hard to get St. Rudolph into nationals.
But under the pressure of his fervent hopes and carefully laid plans, he collapsed at the tennis club from exhaustion. When he woke up, Mizuki discovered that he could suddenly hear voices no one else could.
At first, he thought he was imagining things. Then, when Fuji Syusuke came to school to see Yuta, Mizuki heard something unbelievable: "In the upcoming Tokyo Metropolitan Tournament, you will lose to Fuji Syusuke by a score of 5-7."
What!?? He was going to lose to Fuji Syusuke, of all people, 5-7???
Mizuki was shocked, then confused. But when he heard that annoying "Mizuno-kun" again, he scoffed, completely unconvinced. Mizuki Hajime could lose to anyone, but he absolutely could not lose to Fuji Syusuke.
To prove he could win, Mizuki carefully adjusted his condition, added more training, and kept the club members in line. He seemed determined to prove that the so-called "prophecy" couldn't possibly come true.
Yet as he kept trying to prove those "prophecies" false, he and the others seemed to go further and further down that path. It wasn't until St. Rudolph began to attract the attention of more and more people that he suddenly came to his senses. Looking back, he realized that their tennis club had somehow reached a new level, and his goal had already been achieved. It also seemed that none of the "prophecies" he'd heard had come true from beginning to end...
For example, besides hearing that he would lose to Fuji 5-7, there were also prophecies like "St. Rudolph will be eliminated at the metropolitan tournament," "Hyotei will underestimate its opponents in the regional tournament and make it to the Kanto tournament using a spot sponsored by the school," "Yukimura Seiichi's hospitalization will cost Rikkai its sixteen consecutive Kanto victories," and "The tennis world's Child of God will lose to Seigaku's fun-loving tennis"... and so on.
It was unsettling that he had never heard of any of these "prophecies" before. But reassuringly, not one of them had come true in the end.
Tips:
(1) Blurb screenshot and idea recorded on 2024.5.8.
(2) The System's main purpose is to "prophesy" about the future.
(3) Only Mizuki can hear the "prophecies". No one else can.
(4) Rikkai wins the Kanto tournament sixteen times in a row and the national tournament three times in a row.
(5) I can't think of anything else for now. I'll add more later...
