A Not-So-Successful Confession

[Short story]

A few months after my internship turned into a full-time job, I confessed to Deputy General Manager Zhou and learned that he'd already turned down more than ten people that year.

He was a gifted elite from a prestigious university, handsome and from a wealthy family, with every advantage imaginable. He'd been surrounded by admirers since childhood and always carried himself like he was above everyone else. He became a group vice president before turning thirty, and it seemed he would never look twice at someone like me.

But people are so easily drawn to beautiful, dazzling things.

Why am I so infatuated with one person? Even after confessing and being rejected, I can't let go. Whenever I have a spare moment, I fantasize about running into him and being together.

He was like a god untouched by dust, filling my thoughts every moment. After my first attempt failed, I confessed a second time.

It was still beside the sinks shared by the men's and women's restrooms.

He lowered his head to wash his hands without even looking up. Seizing the moment, I blurted out, "I think about you every minute of every day. I love you so, so much. Will you be my boyfriend?"

Deputy General Manager Zhou dried his hands indifferently and walked straight away. After a couple of steps, he looked back at me and said calmly:

"Are you that eager to get fired?"
