The bad news: he isn't dead...
So Yan Ye became the only living person in the Underworld with an official post.

In recent years, life in the human world has become increasingly stressful. Young people today choose to burn incense instead of going to work or school, causing a surge in the number of prayers the Underworld receives. But the process of granting wishes has been riddled with people cutting corners and gaming the system.
Yan Ye was assigned to review whether wishes were reasonable and supervise how they were fulfilled.
For example: Someone wishes for twenty thousand yuan, then gets into a car accident and receives exactly twenty thousand yuan in compensation.
No cutting corners! Catch them and dock their merit points!
Another example: A grandson wishes to get rich, so his grandfather, who's been dead for thirty years, rounds up four old buddies from the Underworld to help him use the Five Ghosts' Wealth-Attracting Spell.
No illegal or criminal activities allowed! Drag them off to the Eighteenth Level of Hell!

Later, Yan Ye established the [Human World Wish Management Bureau]. Just as his work was flourishing, a handsome old man claiming to be an immortal handed him a business card. "Interested in working in the Celestial Realm?"
Yan Ye: ...Does the Celestial Realm poach from the Underworld, too?
Handsome old man: "When it comes to wish-making, the Celestial Realm is where the real trouble is..."
Later, after a round of negotiations that began with courtesy and ended with threats, the Celestial Realm sent people to the Underworld.
The Celestial Realm outsourced the work of investigating people who cut corners when fulfilling wishes made to the gods to the Underworld.
Later still, a curvaceous nine-tailed fox appeared at his office door. "You know, plenty of people make wishes to auspicious beasts like nine-tailed foxes, koi, and qilin..."
Yan Ye: Great. Now I'm a servant to three different masters...
