Blurb:
The ministers noticed that Prince Rui had been acting very strangely lately.
He'd never attended court before, but recently he had been getting up early every day to show up, looking one person over, then another. Word was that when he saw the Left Chancellor, he'd raised an eyebrow and grinned like a pest. The Left Chancellor had quietly pulled out several of his own whiskers from being stared at.
Besides that, Prince Rui had been wandering through various government offices. For instance, he caught a department director at the Ministry of Works, asked his name, looked him up and down, then smiled in all sorts of suggestive ways, making the man deeply uncomfortable.
Tsk. It looked like as soon as Prince Rui got his own residence, the emperor had assigned him to act as a spy.
For a while, the various ministries were on edge, seeing danger in everything. Whenever they spotted Prince Rui, they became solemn, diligent, and busy raising their brows and darting glances.
Until one day at court, someone heard him say, "What? You mean it's true? The Minister of Personnel isn't his father's biological son?"
?!!
The officials looked at one another, then thought of the Minister of Personnel's kindly old mother. They glanced meaningfully, though not exactly subtly, at the Minister of Personnel's father, Grand Tutor, who was standing at court beside him. The old man's black official's hat seemed greener the longer they looked at it.
Thud! The old gentleman tipped his head back and collapsed at the front of the line.
Prince Rui Zhao Yun lowered his head and kept happily enjoying the gossip. At the sound, he turned his head. Huh? See, that's what happens when you skip breakfast. He must have fainted from hunger. I wonder if the old gentleman knows that the Minister of Personnel isn't his son.
The emperor looked at the old gentleman foaming at the mouth. Shut up already!!
