To fit his new identity, he grew his hair long, and soon made a name for himself in that "near-suicidal" place.
Three years later, Han Ji successfully completed the mission and prepared to return to the force.
But his superiors had other plans. They thought Han Ji could still be useful and arranged for him to go undercover again in a few months.
During the intervening months, Han Ji didn't need to report back to his unit. He could simply stay in Lianyue City and wait for orders.

After the squad leader left, the many responsibilities fell to deputy squad leader Xu Qiu.
Three years passed, and the squad leader still hadn't returned. Naturally, rumors began to circulate in the corners of the bureau.
"Hasn't your squad been sidelined?"
"I heard Captain Han's leaving again after the New Year. Bet he'll quit the force next time he comes back!"
"There's a saying: three years, then another three years..."
"He's so young and promising. How could he still want this position when he comes back?"
Xu Wen, a new recruit reporting for his first day at the city bureau, was deeply uncomfortable hearing this. Their words weren't just aimed at the "Captain Han" he had never met. They were also aimed at his deputy squad leader, Xu Qiu, who worked so diligently.

While waiting for orders, Han Ji couldn't officially return to his unit, but he wasn't the type to sit around doing nothing. Three years undercover had taught him all kinds of skills, and it felt like a waste not to use them.
So Han Ji put on various disguises once more, following the city bureau's plans to investigate cases and go undercover, traveling through every street and alley.
Unfortunately, the person Xu Wen ran into when he first reported for work was Han Ji, who had spent all night undercover as a nightclub server.
Now, surrounded by his team, Han Ji spotted Xu Wen in the distance, looking conflicted...
He waved first. "Hey, long time no see~"
Deputy Squad Leader Xu Qiu: "Hm? When did you two meet?"
Han Ji: "I was undercover at the nightclub those days... I got back at daybreak and ran into him."
Xu Qiu narrowed her eyes and immediately saw right through Xu Wen.
Xu Wen's heart sank. He knew exactly what that look from his sister meant.
He couldn't explain himself, he wanted to bang his head against the wall, and he swore that from now on he would only think about work.
