Plot blurb:
Qi Yao has always thought her new roommate, Xie Chuan, was strange.

He won't even go home to see his father, and when his younger sister comes begging at his door, he treats her just as badly.

In the blink of an eye, his sister really did show up, bringing along their supposedly gravely ill father, who was still well enough to beat Xie Chuan until his mouth bled right there in the street.
"You said you weren't getting involved," her cousin He Ying reminded her.
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing," she replied.
The next second, a suitcase sent Xie Chuan's father tumbling to the ground, clutching his leg and cursing. Qi Yao pretended to faint, ready to claim compensation.
"Pay up!" He Ying chimed in at once.
The father bolted, leaving behind the poor, pitiful-looking younger sister, Chen Zhaozhao, crying behind Xie Chuan.
"His sister comes over to cry all the time. It's true, everyone has seen it."
"My sister only came once. I don't think she cried."
The neighbors' story and Xie Chuan's version were completely different. Qi Yao's sense of justice kicked in, and she went straight to Chen Zhaozhao to demand an explanation.
"What's it to you?" she replied.
Fine, fine, I won't get involved. Do whatever you want.
Qi Yao picked up her suitcase and went to stay with her cousin He Ying.
But as soon as she left, Xie Chuan was in serious trouble.
His online store was drowning in debt, his livestream was shut down, and the whole internet was attacking him.
"Honestly, we really should stay out of it. Let's all go back home. His sister's got something wrong with her, and he's got nothing in his head," He Ying complained.
"Exactly. Why not fall for me instead?" Zhao Yu, a younger guy from their village, chimed in.
But on the night it all happened, everyone got dragged into it.

Zhao Yu: Same here.
Qi Yao: There's something wrong with my head.
Xie Chuan: I'm the one who let everyone down! I'm sorry!
