An Cen had lived in an ivory tower her whole life. After graduating and returning home, her elders arranged a marriage for her with the younger son of the Pei family. They were close in age and had plenty to talk about, so An Cen had no objections.
But a month before the wedding, a scandal put both families in an awkward position. Pei Yi had cheated, and the affair was causing a huge stir.
An Cen became the talk of her social circle. Miserable, she went out drinking late at night, and in her muddled state, she seemed to have spent a wild night with someone.
The next morning, An Cen rubbed her aching waist and groaned. She had really made a huge mess this time.
That man was her future brother-in-law, Pei Shang.
He was powerful and rarely showed his face. At the few family banquets they had attended, he had looked at her as if she were nothing more than a vase.
He was seven years older than her, not of her generation, and carried the authority of someone accustomed to power. She was afraid of him.
Not long afterward, An Cen discovered she was pregnant. Just then, the Pei family forced Pei Yi to apologize, and the situation spiraled out of control.
As Pei Yi threw a tantrum and demanded to break off the engagement, Pei Shang stepped forward. "I sincerely wish to marry Miss An."
A little bonus scene:
After they married, he took meticulous care of her, and An Cen was very pleased.
There were only two problems she couldn't solve. First, the old flame had rekindled, and she could barely keep up. Second, the baby in her belly was far too rambunctious.
An Cen irritably kicked toward the man handling business on the sofa. "Pei Shang! I want a divorce!"
The man raised an eyebrow. "Cen, are you abandoning your husband and child?"
He was handsome, and apart from taking a little too long, he was very good in bed.
Overcome by his good looks, An Cen couldn't find the words.
While she was distracted, she heard the man say to his computer, "Sorry, my wife is being playful. Let's talk tomorrow."
An Cen exploded. "Pei Shang, you're ruining my reputation! I wasn't being playful."
"Cen, when will you call me hubby?"
