When they were little, the two first met at the Lin family home.
"Hi, I'm Lin Sheng, your neighbor."
The little boy nodded. "Lu Xiao."
Without another word, Lin Sheng grabbed Lu Xiao and dragged him to the garden, where they had a wonderful time playing with some other kids.
It was a scene so lovely no one would want to break it up.
Until...
"Aaaah! Lu Xiao, let go of my braids!"
"No! Pull my pants up fir... Ah! Lin Sheng, let go! Are you a dog?"
Their parents couldn't pull them apart and could only look on helplessly.
And that's how Lin Sheng and Lu Xiao became enemies.
If you asked who was at the top of Lin Sheng's list of people she hated most, Lu Xiao would definitely rank first.
Lin Sheng had complained about him to her best friend, Su Huining, more times than she could count.
"Damn, Huining, guess what? Someone confessed to Lu Xiao again today. What do those girls see in that jerk?"
"Lu Xiao was so awful. That was my last chicken leg! It's an outrage, isn't it, Huining?"
"Huining, Lu Xiao yesterday..."
"Huining..."
"Hui..."
Su Huining turned around, looking thoroughly exasperated. "Sheng, do you like Lu Xiao?"
Lin Sheng leaped to her feet. "Su Huining?! You can eat whatever you want, but you can't just say whatever you want, okay? Me, like him?"
She let out a scornful laugh, as if she'd just heard the biggest joke.
"Even a dog wouldn't like him!"
Years later,
Lin Sheng was struck speechless by the teasing look in Su Huining's eyes.
"Woof. There, happy now?"
