[Third-Person Narration]
I have a childhood friend. We grew up together, from kindergarten through high school, and were always stuck to each other.
When we reached high school and first began to fall in love, my childhood friend and I started dating.
I realized that none of the boys around me was as considerate, handsome, or outstanding as he was. And with his subtle efforts to tempt me, we finally got together during our first year of high school.
Both our families were delighted, and our teachers knew about our relationship. Everything unfolded just like a romance novel.
Our relationship was sweet and loving. My childhood friend was exceptional and treated me very well. Even after we went to college, I still didn't meet anyone more outstanding than him.
I thought life would carry on in this peaceful, sweet way, until my friend gave me a "surprise."
My childhood friend was going to propose to me soon.
Just like in a campus romance, just like in those cliched childhood-friends stories, it seemed as if every heroine and hero got their diplomas in one hand and marriage certificates in the other, and then the story was over.
Then they'd have a child and live happily ever after, just like in a fairy tale...
But that wasn't the life I wanted.
I wasn't willing to do that. I was only twenty-two. Why should I tie myself to marriage for the rest of my life so soon?
I hate the phrase "devoted wife and loving mother," and the ordeal of childbirth terrifies me even more.
So, the day before my childhood friend proposed to me,
I broke up with him...
A childhood friend who always stays clearheaded and loves herself × a love-struck childhood friend who can't live without her
[There is no distinction between better or worse choices when it comes to having children. It is a personal choice, and every woman who has experienced childbirth deserves admiration.]
