We're Not Friends

[A school romance about unrequited love, bad ending] [The final installment in the Experimental High School Unrequited Love series] At a weekend class reunion at a music restaurant, a boy from their class asked Xu Shiying a question. “Top student, I've always wondered: do you like anyone? Do you like Yuan?” Xu Shiying froze. Before she could answer, the boy who'd asked was pulled away by his classmates to sing karaoke. She lowered her eyes and took a sip of her drink. Then she heard Luo Wenyuan, sitting beside her, say languidly, “You don't have to say it. I already know.” She stopped mid-sip and looked up at him in surprise. “I know...” He turned to look into her eyes. “You could never love me.” Everyone thought that bookish Xu Shiying could never like anyone, and Luo Wenyuan thought so too. No one knew how many times, in the silent depths of countless nights, Xu Shiying had written the same line of poetry over and over on her scrap paper. “Every time I hear an oriole, I think of Wenyuan.”, “Hearing the Oriole at Dawn” She would never forget that the first person to excitedly tell her that line of poetry was Luo Wenyuan, on the day they first met. “Once we've said ‘I love you,’ we can't be friends.”, From the song “Not Friends” Theme: Unrequited love
