Changle lives with his grandfather in a village called Shibatun on the banks of the Yangtze River. To protect the river's ecosystem, the villagers have willingly taken on the responsibility of patrolling its waters. Recently, Cui Ping told everyone that an evil spirit had appeared in the Yangtze, mercilessly killing its fish and disturbing the river's peace. Every night, Changle dreams of a huge black fish, and it frightens him. Whenever he tries to get a better look at it, he suddenly wakes up.
