1. Chen Jiu is unemployed at an age when finding a new job is hard.

After years of working herself to the bone for her company, she is left with a body full of ailments and effectively demoted at thirty-five. When she gets a call from her exploitative boss about her job change, she has only just come home after working through the night.

At last, she completely loses it in the elevator. After a furious shouting match with her boss, she fires him.

She gave up all her health and youth, only to end up unemployed at her age with a medical report full of red flags. Her life hits rock bottom.

Suddenly, a hand reaches out in front of her. Someone else in the elevator offers her a tissue to wipe away her tears.

In a terrible mood, Chen Jiu instinctively refuses: “Mind your own f, ”

She looks up and is struck speechless. Oh, handsome guy!

Forget I said anything.

2. Zhang Dingzhi is Chen Jiu’s new neighbor, a promising airline captain who is unfairly handsome.

And he has a huge golden retriever! He takes it for walks all the time!

Now that she suddenly has plenty of free time after quitting her job, Chen Jiu plans to use getting fit as an excuse to land this wonderful, handsome man.

She looks herself over in the mirror and tries to reassure herself: Sure, I’ve put on a little weight, but I’ve still got a great foundation. I’ll look amazing once I lose it!

After much back-and-forth, the two of them are in that ambiguous almost-relationship stage. At a gathering, her friends egg her on to get to the point like an adult. Fueled by alcohol, she boldly invites Zhang Dingzhi

“I like you. Will you be my boyfriend?”

After a long silence, he replies: “I’m his girlfriend. I have his phone. Who are you?”

Chen Jiu somehow stays calm. “...I’m his neighbor. I’m playing Truth or Dare with my friends. Don’t get the wrong idea.”

3. Much later, the two are living together and competing over the bed. Chen Jiu is using his phone when she unexpectedly receives a confession from one of his admirers.

Remembering her former self, she gets indignant and replies: “I’m his boyfriend. I have his phone. Who are you?”

She turns around to find Zhang Dingzhi looking aggrieved. “When are you going to make me official and give me a proper title?”

Chen Jiu thinks smugly, Is that all? Your real test is only just beginning.

The next day, they go out, and Zhang Dingzhi repeatedly assures her that what happened before was all a misunderstanding. He had his reasons back then, but from now on, he’ll love her properly.

“I’ll pamper you like the heroine of a romance drama!” he declares.

The heroine of a romance drama, huh? Chen Jiu sneers and beckons him over.

He eagerly leans in, and she sprays a huge mouthful of water right at him!

You want to act out a romance drama? Bring it on. Get ready for all the classic, ridiculous romance-drama scenes!

1. Xu Yingzi wakes up one day with amnesia.

Her family tells her that before losing her memory, she was a stalker who pursued the wealthy young master Jiang Yao relentlessly. She even imagined that they were dating and engaged, though he paid her no attention.

And Jiang Yao is her cousin’s husband.

Her father says sternly that the amnesia is a good thing. She can forget the people and events from before, stop making a fool of herself, and get on with her life.

Yikes!

Did she really do something so embarrassing? At least she doesn't remember it.

She has lost her job, and her mother is sick. How could she spare any thought for a cousin’s husband she can't even remember?

2. Medical bills pile up like snowflakes. Just when she's in despair, a bizarre, high-paying job offer reaches out to her.

“Be my personal assistant. I’ll cover your expenses.”

The man is Chen You'an, a close friend of Jiang Yao and another wealthy young master who is rarely seen in public.

Xu Yingzi is instantly on guard. “I won't pursue Jiang Yao anymore! You don't have to stand up for your friend.”

“I hired you to work for me.” He raises his cool, indifferent eyes. “And at work, address me by my title. Don't bring up your ex-boyfriend either.”

She answers respectfully: “Yes, President Chen! Of course, President Chen!”

3. Much later, Jiang Yao is the one who won't stop pursuing her. Full of regret, he says, “Yingzi, forgive me...”

She's just about to refuse when Chen You'an appears out of nowhere. “Yao, Yingzi and I are getting married. If you have something to say to my fiancée, you can say it in front of me.”

Jiang Yao looks at him coldly. “You're taking advantage of her!”

Chen You'an gives him a challenging look. “I've told you countless times: if you treated her badly, I wouldn't hold back.”

4. Later, she asks him out of curiosity, “President Chen, when exactly did you start coveting me?”

Chen You'an cups her face in his hands. His rough fingertips trace her brows, and he gazes at her as if she were a priceless treasure. “A very, very long time ago.”

Then he pulls her close. “But I still think it's a little regrettable.”

Regrettable that I didn't meet you first.

In a world where wealth and virtue are assumed to come with beauty, an ordinary girl can still be an unremarkable yet radiant heroine.
