After I Transmigrated into a Book, the Female Side Character Only Wanted to Run Away
穿书后女配只想逃跑
by Nan Xi (暔匸)
Synopsis
In the book that Zhi Huan transmigrates into, she couldn't care less about making a comeback as the villainess. She only wants to quietly look after her own little patch of land. Treat others as you would like to be treated: that's her guiding principle.
Seeing that women are expected to stay home and serve their husbands and raise children, she pushes for reform. Faced with a backward government, she adopts a secret identity as a civilian political advocate, living freely and lodging petitions and criticism.
When confronted with all the false accusations in the book, all she can do is dodge them again and again. What if she can't escape? Then she has to rely on her acting skills to deceive and trick people while searching for evidence.
Instead, she catches the attention of the person the heroine likes least. She runs, he chases, and she has to keep pretending to be a villainess in front of him. But she can't fool him about who she really is, and everyone ends up liking her. Everyone, that is, except the hard-to-read Prince Regent, who always looks at her with a wounded expression.
As her career flourishes, she gradually realizes that the center of the storm has shifted from Qing Huan to her. Afraid of taking the heroine's role and reliving the fate of a sacrificial character, she hides her identity and goes into hiding as a teacher. Her peaceful life doesn't last long before an intruder interrupts it. Even her own father can't recognize her in disguise, so she isn't worried about being found out. But when the other person starts getting handsy, she can only feign calm and keep her distance.
A month later, she finally learns why he came. The story is repeating itself: the country is in turmoil, and the people are suffering. Without her, she's afraid everything in the story will change. She returns to her country with him to face the chaos.
When it comes to her feelings, she can no longer avoid facing them. At last, she finds the courage to do so. Everyone gets a happy ending except the villains!
Theme: The spring hills are lush and the days of spring invite us onward. I will seek and strive, taking the world as my responsibility. I will establish myself as my foundation, then help myself and others across.
Little scene:
Zhi Huan stopped kneeling and stood straight up. With steady steps and nimble movements, she grabbed the corrupt official by the lapels:
"Do you know how many people died or were injured during your years in office? How much you've extorted in taxes? How many properties you own? How many servants?"
The pig-faced county magistrate meant to shove away this ghostly voice, as if it came to claim his life, but his mind was filled with heartrending cries. He roared, his face twisted in rage: "Get away from me!" Then he clamped his fat hand around Zhi Huan's neck.
The cries of those around them grew faint as the sensation of pain and suffocation hit her all at once. Just as her vision began to go black, a flash of cold light appeared: Zhou Li Heng had struck.
Blood streamed from the magistrate's wrist, and he released his grip.
At last able to breathe, Zhi Huan braced herself with both hands on the ground. Her eyes bloodshot, she looked at the trembling man and choked out the words, one by one:
"Have you ever... felt sorry for them, even once?"
