(I can't update daily because I need to keep the word count down, but I'm frantically building up a stock of chapters!)
[Cheerful, quirky exiled girl vs. cool, devoted young general]
1.
Jiang Yancheng transmigrated into a hopeless situation from the start, taking over the body of a minister's daughter convicted of a crime and exiled to the vast northern frontier.
A disastrous start: Her eccentric family, driven mad by hunger, wants to eat her to survive?!
She narrowly escapes, helps someone else get out of danger, then gets falsely accused of colluding with the enemy and sentenced to death?!
Fortunately, at the critical moment, she binds herself to the Talent Scout System and gains a guide to finding promising people. The commander, Mu Qingye, takes pity on her and spares her life. Then, impressed by her knack for finding people, he makes her his advisor.
Jiang Yancheng leads the laborers in exile as they rediscover the craftsman's spirit, improve weapons, and invent ingenious city-defense mechanisms. She leads the farmers of the north in exploring new paths, digging up underground oil and developing a new kind of gunpowder. She helps impoverished widows emerge from their grief, sewing sable coats to ease frostbite among soldiers and civilians...
In just three months of wartime, she saves countless people like herself, exiles struggling to survive in the harsh northern frontier.
At first, she only wanted to complete her mission. Later, Jiang Yancheng finds she can no longer bear to leave this land.
Outsiders all say the people of the northern frontier can't read a single character.
So she teaches them how even an ant can shake a tree, and how a breeze begins with duckweed stirring.
2.
Mu Qingye, a renowned general stationed at the border, is the person the enemy nation of Beirong fears most. They say he's a ruthless butcher who has never lost a battle, a model for every general.
Until one midnight during the Jingzhe season, they find the general, who scowls by day as if he could eat people, standing pitifully at the foot of Advisor Jiang's wall with a quilt in his arms:
"The thunder of Jingzhe frightens me. I hope you'll let me stay by your side, where I can lean on you."
The soldiers are stunned: The general I ship is actually a lovesick fool?!
Bonus scene:
Jiang Yancheng brings home a chubby little fellow who's good at building mechanisms. Unfortunately, he can't even hold a brush, let alone draw blueprints, so Jiang Yancheng has to teach him by guiding his hand.
The next day, everyone runs a lap around the city to warm up. Then the grim commander suddenly appears, his voice eerie:
"You run ten laps."
Chubby boy: QAQ!
Reader's guide:
1. Mainly about daily military life at the border, without too much political intrigue.
2. The early chapters are a little slow to warm up.
3. I'll add more as I think of it. Feel free to point out any mistakes (heart!)
