My Nemesis Seems to Be My Partner

Bian Wan Feng died, blasted into cosmic debris by a heavy energy cannon.

When he woke again, he discovered that a chip had been implanted in his head and that he had become the subject of a classified research project.

The military used the chip to train on his every habit and action, hoping to create a "replica" of him.

The result was an obvious failure. They didn't recreate a fake "Bian Wan Feng"; they awakened the real Bian Wan Feng instead.

He was certain that he was still himself, not an AI whose mind had been rewritten. At least, his memories were real, and the "replica" couldn't have the secrets and memories from his past that no one else knew about.

But his memories often seemed off, as though some part of them had gone missing.

Before the modifications, he had already been second to none. Now, with all the high-tech enhancements, he had the reaction speed and judgment of a supercomputer, and a body more than twice as strong as before. He had become the strongest weapon of the Solei Empire.

Yet when he was first sent out to fight the enemy, he was astonished to discover that their leader was none other than the old rival he had loathed most back at military academy.

Bian Wan Feng's usually unruffled heart gave a cold laugh. Hah, I knew he would defect.

But the moment the other man saw him, he looked as if he had been struck by lightning, shocked and furious. He even schemed to sever the chip's connection in Bian Wan Feng's head, then abducted him and took him back to his own territory.

Bian Wan Feng: This is the problem with a new body. Its weak point is way too obvious.

When he rebooted and regained consciousness, his old rival had locked him in a room.

Strangely, his old rival's moods were unpredictable. One moment he was silent and taciturn, the next he was inexplicably angry, even wanting to do things that were stranger still...

One day, after finally finding a chance to turn the tables, Bian Wan Feng held a dagger to his old rival's throat.

Unexpectedly, the other man closed his eyes in relief and offered no resistance. Stroking the pendant around his neck, he gave a low laugh. "Do it. Maybe I'll see you again after I die."

Bian Wan Feng: Is he crazy? Why is he cursing me? I'm not dead.

Later, after regaining his memories, Bian Wan Feng thought: This is bad. That guy might be my boyfriend.

His old rival, who had only just learned that Bian Wan Feng wasn't dead: "You forgot about me?"

Bian Wan Feng, utterly unruffled: "You didn't recognize me either."

His old rival: "..."
