[The story of Wen Jin, Yu Ge'er's stepfather, from The Husband Turns Out to Be a Seductive Beauty, and the events of a previous life from The Abandoned Consort of the Cold Palace Is Reborn.]

"Have you ever regretted it? I cherished and loved you, and gave you everything you wanted. Why did you let yourself end up in such a state?" Yin Shang once asked him. How had he answered?

"The dream you wove for me is more than I deserve. Power and status were never what I wanted. I wanted a sincere heart, but no one has ever given me one in this life. If there is a next life, I want to wander into the mountains, find a good man and beautiful scenery, and live an ordinary life: holding each other close as we walk through dew-soaked grass, brewing tea over a low flame, setting aside poetry and books for a while to learn how to grow melons."

Yin Shang stormed off in anger. As Wen Jin waited to die in the Cold Palace, the last bit of tenderness he received came, unexpectedly, from his husband in name only, Lu Ruoheng.
