He doesn't know that behind the partition, the priest is counseling the foolish low-ranking incubus in the gentlest, most saintly voice, while below, he toys with the little hand reaching through a small window in the divider, seeking comfort. He places a string of kisses, like a serpent's tongue, along the lamb-white bones of the palm, and deceives the unsuspecting incubus, telling him that they are only mosquitoes bred by the summer heat.

When the young man he has spent every day with finally reveals his truly horrifying form, the foolish, timid, pure low-ranking incubus does something even the evil god never expected. He takes hold of the tentacle capable of strangling all life and rubs it against his cheek, just like a loyal puppy rubbing its fluffy head against its master's hand. The incubus gently reassures him not to be afraid, saying that the kind priest will surely find a way to help the young man return to normal, even though he himself is a demon at odds with the church.

"You want to save your friend?" Hearing the incubus's earnest plea, the priest abandons his usual gentleness. His eyes glitter with amusement. "Then you'll have to pay a price."
