Mainly Sae Itoshi or all the Itoshi brothers, second-person POV. An alternate, melodramatic, heavily altered Warring States-era setting inspired by Japan. Women hold power, men are not too oppressed, heirs are women, and women can take secondary husbands. Once they grow up, only the men get hurt, not the women.
The simple version: Your mom killed his mom and gave him to you as a private slave.
You picked up a cat. The cat wanted to run away.
You took the chain off the cat's neck. The cat wasn't happy.
