Synopsis:

The night before Qin Yuci is to be executed, Chu Chuyi, the notorious young Prince Yi and scourge of the capital, storms into his prison cell.

He crosses his legs and tosses a marriage contract along with an imperial pardon token to the Vice Minister of Justice. With his nose in the air, he says, "Qin Yuci and I are engaged. He's a descendant of the former king, so he should be pardoned."

The Vice Minister of Justice turns pale with terror and drops to his knees. "Your Highness, Prince Yi, have you lost your mind? You're a direct descendant of Emperor Taizong, a prince of the commandery. To take a consort, you need an imperial edict, the three letters and six rites, and the marriage must be announced at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. You can't just decide to marry someone like this. Are you trying to rebel?"

Chu Chuyi takes a sip of tea and lazily lifts his expressive eyes. His voice is quiet, but it carries immense authority. "Who said I'm taking a consort? I'm marrying him!"

Eunuch Chief Wang Cheng is dragged out of bed in the middle of the night and sent to the Ministry of Justice prison to witness the marriage of a death-row prisoner and a prince.

Wang Cheng thinks that, despite living a full sixty years, he's still far too young, or he wouldn't be running into such absurd business.

"Lord Qin, Prince Yi says... says he wants to marry you. Are you willing to wed him?"

The young man has been beaten until he's barely breathing. He looks up at the bold and carefree Prince Yi standing before him and parts his lips. He's already a dead man. Why drag someone else down with him?

His gaze firm, he answers, "I am not willing."

Chu Chuyi raises an eyebrow. "You heard him. He said he is willing."

Lu Erfu, the iron-faced censor feared throughout the court.

Raised in a family steeped in scholarship, he passes the imperial examinations at a young age and enters government service. His entire family expects him to rise to prominence and bring honor to their name.

But a tricky murder case in the palace, one no one dares take on, entangles him with Ning Wuque. From then on, schemes and conspiracies come one after another.

Ning Wuque, the emperor's most trusted eunuch bodyguard.

He seems easygoing and world-weary, but is actually a formidable martial artist and a brilliant strategist. He greatly admires Lu Erfu's character and intelligence.

He recommends Lu Erfu to investigate the palace murder, but can't help being drawn to the straight-laced censor and becoming emotionally invested in him.

From then on, he willingly stays by Lu Erfu's side, keeping him safe.

One day, after drinking,

The censor's cheeks turn red as he confesses, "If only Eunuch Ning weren't a eunuch. What a shame..."

Ning Wuque, a fake eunuch and real secret guard, is heartbroken: "...I'm really not a eunuch."

At court,

Civil and military officials are at odds.

The censor tries to mediate, but they make things difficult for him.

Ning Wuque stands up for him with a commanding air. "Who dares cause trouble?"
