[Do Not Read]
Yu Qi, a surgeon, dies and transmigrates into a book as a cannon-fodder princess.
She wakes up in the dark, trapped in a frail body and shoved into a bridal sedan chair to become a pawn in a political marriage meant to win over court officials. The court's scheming nearly gets her killed on the way to the wedding.
And the man she's supposed to marry, General Gu, is known as the Reaper of the Northern Frontier. Rumor says he's cruel, violent, and hideous.
What a joke. How could a little hardship defeat her?
So when assassins strike, Yu Qi makes a decisive escape and plunges into the mountains.
Along the way, she rescues a handsome young traveling merchant fleeing from danger. To her delight, she discovers that if she treats the sick and saves lives, she can earn enough achievement points to return to the real world!
The Northern Frontier of the Great Xia Dynasty is barren, with bitter winds that cut to the bone. The soldiers stationed at the border suffer year-round from illness brought on by cold meals, while civilians often die from the flu.
After weighing her options, Yu Qi decides to travel north with the young merchant. One will provide the capital, the other the expertise. Together, they'll open a clinic and work directly with General Gu, who wears a mask with a blue face and fangs, to build a medical system for the frontier.
They supply the army with alcohol, iodine, and anti-inflammatory medicine, and treat civilians with fever and cold remedies. Surgery and sterile wards save the lives of one injured soldier after another.
Thanks to Yu Qi's efforts, casualties in the northern border city drop dramatically. Armed with the latest black powder they have developed, the army drives the hostile forces that have been eyeing them hungrily all the way back home!
Looking around the city, Yu Qi sees civilians holding their recovered loved ones, tears streaming down their faces.
It's wonderful.
Yu Qi looks at the enormous number of achievement points steadily accumulating on the System and smiles, her eyes curving into crescents.
Just as Yu Qi's reputation is soaring, someone exposes her identity as the Third Princess.
The court is furious and drags Yu Qi back, ready to execute her for defying the imperial decree. Just then, the general suddenly returns to the capital with his troops. He removes his mask and, neither servile nor arrogant, calls out to the emperor from the hall: "The Third Princess accepted the decree to marry me and has been with me in the Northern Frontier all along. How can you call that defying the decree?"
Yu Qi's eyes go wide.
Wait, isn't this the young merchant she rescued?!
Reader's Guide:
1. A noble-hearted, brilliant physician heroine with a frail body who pushes herself to the limit x a devoted hero who can fight enemies with a blade and also cook soup for her. The hero uses a secret identity early on to pretend to be innocent and win her over. The heroine falls in love after marriage, but is slow to realize it.
2. One-on-one romance, both leads are sexually inexperienced, happy ending.
3. The dynasty, official titles, and frontier setting are all fictional. The logic serves the plot, and many details are author inventions. Feel free to point out any issues with the professional knowledge.
4. [Heavy academic workload and limited energy from writing two stories at once, so I'll update the other novel first.]
Theme: Work for the greater good, and strengthen the nation through scientific research
