I originally planned to write a tragic ending, but somewhere along the way, feelings crept into the story. Then I realized I wasn’t very good at writing it, so I went off to study. After that, I decided that people in this new era shouldn’t be trapped by feudal thinking, so I’m changing it to a happy ending for good!!! They’re already at the height of power, so they can do whatever they want!!!!
The emperor and empress, united in heart and purpose, are headed for unprecedented success~
Here’s the proper blurb ↓
If historians a thousand years from now were to tell the story of the Great Yu Dynasty, they could hardly avoid mentioning one emperor: Zhao Huaining. This young empress ascended the throne as a teenager and devoted her life to good governance, ushering in a golden age unlike anything Great Yu had ever seen. She pacified the borderlands, opened trade routes, broke the power of the aristocratic clans, and appointed women to government posts. Under her rule, Great Yu prospered, and peace reigned throughout the land.
Yet any mention of Zhao Huaining would inevitably bring up another person: the only empress of the Longsheng era.
Later historians often discussed her alongside Zhao Huaining. In the official history of Great Yu, theirs is the only account of an emperor and empress given a shared biography. Some scholars have also pointed to an intriguing fact: Great Yu’s civil service exams were opened to women, the law abolished the “seven grounds for divorce,” and women were granted the right to establish independent households. Almost all of these measures were enacted only after Yun Zhenqing was formally installed as empress.
The historical record states: “Empress Yun, Zhenqing, entered the palace as a young companion to the prince. When the emperor ascended the throne, her favor grew day by day, and she was eventually installed as empress. She held the phoenix seal, kept the inner palace in order, assisted with state affairs, and brought peace to the people. She was praised throughout the court and land. The emperor took no male favorites and filled no harem for her entire life. Throughout the Longsheng era, the empress’s position never changed.”
I made up the official titles on the fly, so none of them are historically researched.
I’m aiming for a short story. Thanks.
