After losing his parents, Richard Grayson was adopted by Thomas Wayne, Gotham's richest man.
Upon entering Wayne Manor, Richard discovered a secret.
His adoptive father, Thomas Wayne, was the Owlman, an underground hero who kept Gotham at peace.
To follow in his adoptive father's footsteps, Richard transformed himself into a Talon. He gained golden eyes and powerful healing abilities, becoming an immortal living corpse. He used his strength to defend Gotham's peace and justice, following Thomas Wayne.
Just as he began to believe the world could become a better place,
his adoptive father, Thomas Wayne, told Richard to his face:
Richard's parents had been money launderers, and Thomas Wayne had killed them so that he could adopt Richard.
Owlman hadn't set out to make the world a better place, either. He wanted to rule it.
And Richard had become a tool for Owlman to rule the world.
This world would never get better.
Richard was distraught when the Joker attacked him. He thought he was going to die.
Instead, he unexpectedly ended up in another world, where the owner of Wayne Manor was Bruce Wayne. Owlman no longer existed in Gotham. Batman had taken his place.
Richard also met his counterpart.
A version of himself with blue eyes.
His counterpart had lost his parents, too, and was about to be adopted by the Wayne family.
Richard swore in Owlman's name that he would stop the Waynes' scheme!
He would adopt his blue-eyed self!
He would never let this world's Richard get trapped in a world of lies!
Original world
Owlman knew Richard had left, but he didn't care. He knew Richard would come back.
Where else could he go besides here?
But Owlman never expected Richard to return in a box.
The Joker had killed Richard and sent him back to Wayne Manor.
There was no Richard left in this world.
Then he would go steal one from another world.
That was his Richard! His!
