Wen Ji is the hated child everyone blames for bringing bad luck. He doesn't care and instead works even harder. When no one else follows the old beggar to learn his skills, he does.
Seeing that Wen Ji is a hardworking, good child, the old beggar keeps him by his side, traveling from a county a hundred miles away to the prosperous city of Chang'an. The old beggar teaches him many things.
After three months in Chang'an, the old beggar sends Wen Ji to Mount Wanfo on Penglai Peak. From then on, no one in the world knows Wen Ji; in his place stands Venerable Tianjing.
Thus Wen Ji becomes famous throughout the land.
Then everything is thrown into disarray by Shi Zhiming. His circumstances are much like Wen Ji's, and once again, a dear friend entrusts a child to his care.
Wen Ji raises Shi Zhiming with all his heart, giving him the courtesy name Rongyu and placing great expectations on him.
But things rarely go as hoped.
During a battle between immortals and demons, a new school of Daoism suddenly emerges. Because it goes against traditional Daoism, it is called the Strange Path.
Since the Strange Path appeared, the world has been in endless turmoil. The True Immortal Miju of Yuling Peak prophesies: A great calamity descends, and all people seek to save themselves. The loyal and righteous will surely suffer its backlash, and all living beings will be caught up in the disaster.
Whether loyalty and righteousness bring blessing or disaster deserves careful consideration.
When Wen Ji discovers that Shi Zhiming is the Strange Path, the very starting point of it all, he challenges him to a duel.

In the blink of an eye,
both swords pierce Wen Ji's chest. Sword energy runs wild through his body, and he explodes and dies. (Hate lasts longer than love...)
