After My Sister Died, I Inherited Her Wife

"Xiaoyu, this is your sister-in-law."

He Yu first met Xia Ning on her eighteenth birthday.

Xia Ning was eight years older than her, with a mature charm about her. Her every gesture was poised and graceful, making people want to get closer to her.

Xia Ning bent down, her eyes warm, and gave He Yu a gentle hug.

"Xiaoyu, it's so nice to meet you. We're family now."

The faint scent of gardenias drifted into He Yu's nose, and her heart raced uncontrollably all night.

After that, just as Xia Ning had said, they truly became a family. He Yu refused to get close to Xia Ning, treating her with excessive politeness and distance. Her older sister even took her aside to tell her not to treat her sister-in-law that way.

He Yu said nothing.

The two were preparing to get married, and He Yu planned to move out. But on their way to try on wedding dresses, they got into a car accident.

Xia Ning spent more than half a year in the ICU and was lucky to survive, but she had forgotten about the accident.

"Xiaoyu, where's your sister? Why hasn't she come to see me?"

After Xia Ning had asked that question more times than she could count, He Yu snapped, "She's dead. She can't come!"

Xia Ning thought she was joking, but there was no sign of her girlfriend left in the house. She had no choice but to accept the truth.

On a stormy night, He Ning was keeping watch outside Xia Ning's room as usual when she heard muffled sobbing.

She opened the door and saw the woman who was usually so composed and self-controlled curled up at the head of the bed, hugging her knees, her face streaked with tears.

"Sister-in-law, don't cry. You still have me."

Xia Ning looked up and threw her arms around He Ning, as though she had grabbed the only lifeline left to her.

"That's right! I still have you! We're family..."

Hearing her murmur those words, He Ning's lips curled into a smile, and the hand on her back tightened its grip.

"Sister-in-law, becoming part of my family comes at a price."

Xia Ning nodded. She knew He Yu didn't like her, but she had no one else.

He Yu's smile widened, and flames blazed in her dark eyes, burning them red.
