Chaoge is an ordinary osmanthus flower in the demon realm, a flower monster at the very bottom of the pecking order.
But the one she loves is Jing Yao, the most noble and admired Demon Lord in the realm.
Rumor has it that the Demon Lord never gets close to women.
Yet one day, word spread that the Demon Lord Jing Yao had ordered every woman to enter the palace.
They said he was looking for the most ordinary, yet most precious, flower.

He had said he wanted an ordinary flower, yet all the arrivals were queens of flowers like peonies, empresses of flowers like roses, gentlemen among flowers, beauties among flowers...
While everyone else showed off their charms in front of the Demon Lord, getting arranged to be a flower courtesan or flower fairy, Chaoge didn't even qualify for an audience with him!
What was this? She might not be precious, but she was ordinary!
She was ordinary!!
Chaoge refused to accept this. She'd come all this way, so she had to get something out of it.
So she talked her way through every possible connection and finally landed a job in the Demon Palace.
As Jing Yao's... gatekeeper.
It might sound a little lowly, but at least she had a chance to see him.

Chaoge began creating opportunities for herself every day.
With her living so close to him, she was the only girl in his residence. If he didn't like her, who else could he like?!
“My lord~ I made this bowl of osmanthus rice porridge especially for you. Please try some.”
Who could resist a little flower who knew how to cook?
But...
Jing Yao glanced up at the disgusting, filthy-looking bowl in front of him, turned around, and shouted, “Guards! Someone is trying to harm me. Seize her!”

“My lord~ I heard that dual cultivation together helps you improve faster. Would you like me to help you...?”
Who could resist a little flower who was hardworking and ambitious?
But...
After listening, Jing Yao leaned close to her ear, his deep voice laced with amusement. “Don't you know that when two people cultivate together, if the gap in their power is too great, the weaker one could explode and die?”
“Can your little body handle me?”

“Don't harbor feelings for me that you shouldn't. I have no interest in silly little monsters like you.”

After being firmly rejected, Chaoge really did stop appearing in front of him.
But she noticed that Jing Yao had been leaving the palace more and more often lately.
She no longer had to sneak out to see him. By dutifully guarding the gate, she could see him many times a day.
Just as she was beginning to entertain certain fantasies, she learned... that he had found that flower.
He had found the flower he truly needed.
Of course, it couldn't possibly be Chaoge.
So she could only leave in disgrace.
But just as she took one step out of his residence, someone suddenly wrapped an arm around her waist from behind. His deep voice carried a hint of resentment:
“Didn't you say you wouldn't give up until you won me over? Did your hands fall off?”
“I'm right here. Where are you running off to?”
