Lou Lingfeng, the eldest son of the Lou family, became its head at twenty-four. He stood at the top of the Five Great Families, yet could never shake off one stain from his past.
When he was a young student, he fell for a girl from the Jin family, another of the great houses. He confessed to her in public and got this in reply: “I don’t like men like you, Young Master Lou.”
People came to believe that the reason he still hadn’t married was that he remained hung up on that old romance.
When the rumor reached him, Lou Lingfeng merely laughed it off. But one day, the Jin girl from the story came to see him.
Facing the woman he once knew, Lou Lingfeng found the situation both sad and laughable.
Sad, because someone he had once liked had ultimately become just another vulgar opportunist.
Funny, because did she think he was a fool?
Through the long silence, Jin Jiuyin sensed the resentment from the man she once knew.
He was still holding a grudge...
Unsure how much of their old affection remained, Jin Jiuyin said, “Family Head Lou, I’m here to ask for medicine.”
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m blind.”
A few months later, the two formally began marriage negotiations.
When his friends questioned him, Lou Lingfeng had his own reasoning. “I’ll marry her, then divorce her. That’ll teach her what it means to look down on someone.”
His friends praised the idea. “Brilliant.”
Lou Lingfeng continued, “It’s easy to go from frugality to luxury, but hard to go back. I’ll give her money to spend and spoil her rotten.”
His friends nodded. “Family Head Lou, you’re a genius.”
Lou Lingfeng: “So what if I’m afraid of my wife? If word gets out, she’ll be the one who loses face, not me.”
His friends were unmoved. Sure, whatever makes you happy.
One day, after the two had quarreled and were giving each other the cold shoulder, her personal maid fretted, “Miss, aren’t you worried Family Head Lou will regret this engagement?”
Lou Lingfeng happened to be behind a rock garden, inexplicably wanting to see her reaction. His fiancée, who had claimed to have turned over a new leaf and loved him more than life itself, wore a look of disdain on her lovely face. “He’ll talk himself around.”
#Entirely fictional! The customs take some inspiration from the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties, but otherwise this has nothing to do with them.
#The ghost Sentinels in this story come from historical legends.

As Lady Wang of the Wang family lay dying, she called her only daughter to her bedside and left her these words: “Take your marriage contract and go at once to Mount Min to find the head of the Fu family. His tongue may be sharp, but he’s decent at heart. He has a son about your age. If you marry into that family, you may have to put up with some noise, but you’ll live in peace.”
Mount Min
The head of the Fu family also called his son to him to make his final arrangements. “The Wangs aren’t great at judging men, but they have some influence. Their daughter is as beautiful as a fairy. If you marry into her family, you may never amount to much, but at least you’ll live to a ripe old age.”
The day Mu Wushuang crossed mountains and rivers to reach the Fu family, the entire area around Mount Min was draped in mourning white. Her fiancé, dressed in mourning clothes much like hers, was being driven out by his clan.
They were both in equally miserable straits, like reflections of each other.
Mu Wushuang: “…”
Fu Lincang: “…”
Fate had other plans. That day, both their worlds collapsed. The pampered treasures of their families became two abandoned strays with nowhere to turn.
Without anyone to rely on, neither could do a day’s work. They were little better than useless, and to survive, they had to trail after their clansmen all day, picking through whatever they left behind.
Fu Lincang: “Sister, do you still want this broken jade?”
Mu Wushuang: “Brother, you really don’t want this purse?”
The more scraps they collected, the more obsessed they became. Before long, everyone knew their names, and people could only sigh when they remembered how powerful their parents had once been.
One day after court, Fu Lincang got into a brawl with the newly appointed top graduate. “Where’d you get that earring?”
“Found it.”
“You sure know how to find things.” Did the man think he was blind? It was the earring Mu Wushuang had worn yesterday.
The gates of the palace were soon packed with people from both families. Mu Wushuang came in person and put an end to the commotion. Even as the young Ministry of Revenue vice minister Fu Lincang was being dragged away by the ear, he turned to threaten the top graduate from the most powerful family in the land. “I’ll have your head, you dog!”
Everyone finally understood. The two who had once scavenged scraps... no, fought over whatever they could find had, without anyone noticing, become powerful families at court that no one dared offend lightly. Their influence far surpassed that of their ancestors.
Theme: Fate brings people together.
Reunion after a long absence, Tai Shangtou. The male protagonist complains about his grievances, but in his heart he has been guarding the female protagonist for six years. Love and hate are entangled, and intrigues are interspersed in it. The more you read, the more you become obsessed with it.
It's a free blade! ! ! [Crying] [crying] [crying]
Damn it, you want to stab me like this [crying] [crying]
I also want to see the owner of the house with his daughter
It is a very good book that I accidentally discovered. Many people in the middle are gone. It gives me a feeling of being lost. The characters are well developed. Some characters are really hateful and pitiable. Yingtang is really surprising.
The story is very good and very attractive, but the whole middle is a bit unbearable. The plots are too repetitive and I couldn't hold my breath while reading it. Maybe it's my problem, so I started skipping chapters.
Yueyue, do you dare to make me so sweet that I beat the bed [Three Flower Cat Head]
Yueyue, do you want to write an emotional drama about sister Xiaojiu?
"She came alive" is a big bug for the author~
she is still alive
