Everyone envied Wen Yao for having such a good marriage, but only she knew that she would die a terrible death on her wedding night. She had to break off the engagement, no matter what.
She heard that Wei Jing had suffered frequent headaches in recent years and was seeking doctors everywhere. If he recovered, he would grant one request.
The day Wen Yao went to the Prince of Chen's residence as a physician, Wei Jing was furious after a doctor tried to assassinate him. Blood covered the inner courtyard of the residence.
He pressed the tip of his blade against her neck and said coldly, "If you can't cure me, you'll end up just like them. How does that sound?"
Wen Yao treated him with all her heart, coming and going from his bedroom every night to massage him and ease his pain.
Wei Jing mocked her: "Have you served others this way before?"
Wen Yao soothed him: "I only treat Your Highness this way."
Many days later, Wei Jing drew up the marriage contract and prepared the wedding. Wen Yao lowered her eyelashes and advised him, "Romance is always a distraction and won't help you recover. Heir, wouldn't it be better to give it up?"
Wei Jing smiled faintly and said nothing.
She really was jealous.
He advised her in turn: "A royal marriage is no trivial matter. Someone of your status can't become the Heir's Consort."
Wei Jing despised scheming women, but Wen Yao always knew exactly where to draw the line and never overstepped. It left him restless and confused.
The morning he returned from the palace after breaking off the engagement, he was in an unusually good mood.
But he was too late. The wedding silk burned bright and painfully vivid amid the raging fire.
He knelt in the ashes and found nothing...
At the beginning of autumn, the Jiangnan rain dampened clothes without soaking them. Wen Yao finished tidying up the clinic and hurried back to her home.
Ever since she broke off her engagement three years ago, her grandmother had been worried about her marriage.
She had heard that the scholar coming to meet her today had failed the imperial examinations in the capital. He had no prospects of becoming an official, but was said to be warm and honest.
Wen Yao stepped into the room, raised her eyes, and saw a tall figure approaching her step by step.
#Both are sexually inexperienced. The male lead will become Crown Prince, so his title changes.

--- Blurb for Embracing Jade ---
Wen Jiayue's fiancé died of illness, and she had resolved never to marry again. But to gain wealth and glory, the Wen family forced her to become Prince Qi Li Chengyu's concubine.
Li Chengyu was handsome as jade, proper and self-disciplined, with an inborn air of dignity. The noblewomen of the capital regarded him as the moon in the heavens, but could only admire him from afar. They knew he had long since given his heart to someone, and none dared to pursue such a noble prince of the royal house.
Wen Jiayue became the foolhardy one, treading carefully through the prince's residence.
But Li Chengyu showed none of the warmth he displayed in public. He tore open her curtains, his icy fingers digging into her flesh inch by inch as he mocked her: "You plotted so hard to get into the prince's residence, and now you're trembling?"
Wen Jiayue hoped he would marry the woman he loved soon and let her go. She never expected him to wear a false mask of unwavering devotion by day, pretending not to know her, then cling to her at night as if she belonged in the palm of his hand. His icy fingers made her tremble and drew cries from her, but he wouldn't let her hide from him.
When the Wen family and their allies failed in an ambush, leaving Li Chengyu wounded in an assassination attempt, a bloodied blade grazed her neck. He wanted to tear her apart and swallow her whole: "If the Wen family wants to climb the ladder by stepping on me, shouldn't you show me what you can do and please me?"
Trapped in his grasp, Wen Jiayue trembled, unable to control even her sobs.
She had no one to rely on. Since her mother died, the Wen family had been nothing but a nest of rotten enemies to her, and she had been waiting for a chance to get revenge.
At last, the Wen family was convicted and imprisoned. Relieved, she fled the capital without looking back.
A year later, the Crown Prince died, and the Wen family and Prince Yin's faction were wiped out. The court returned to peace.
In September, news spread through Yuzhou that the third-place scholar was getting married. The people praised him as a remarkable talent from a humble family, extolled his modest and kind nature, and admired him for never forgetting his first wife.
Li Chengyu sat in his carriage. His eyelid suddenly twitched. He lifted the curtain to look outside and saw the little bird he had once held in his palm day and night, her eyes seductive, holding another man's hand.
That man was the fiancé she had once loved with all her heart.
On the wedding night, Li Chengyu sat upright in the main hall. Behind him, flames engulfed the bridal chamber, their glare reflecting off his golden five-clawed dragon robe.
The groom's wedding clothes had been torn to shreds, and armored guards had crushed his neck into the mud.
Li Chengyu's face was marked with vivid handprints, blood seeping from his lips. Fury and possessiveness surged in his eyes, but then he suddenly let out a low laugh:
"Can a frail scholar like that really satisfy you?"

This book is really well written, much better than most of the novels earlier on this list. Unfortunately, I don't have a large collection of many well-written novels that I like. This is a hidden gem in the ocean. I have to keep writing, I like it ❤️
