[My first story. I wrote it before signing a contract, but I still really love this couple, haha.]
[When rereading, I noticed some typos, so here's a warning.]
The first time Shi Xiao met Lu Mingchuan, she'd just been turned down while seeking an investor.
Fuming, she walked out of the office and saw Lu Mingchuan, dressed in a suit, leaning against the sofa. His fingers tapped the cushions one at a time, the watch on his wrist flashing an eye-catching gleam. He looked relaxed and carefree.
If only he sold that watch and donated the money to the research institute.
The second time Shi Xiao met Lu Mingchuan was that same afternoon.
He offered to invest in the research institute on the condition that she pretend to be his girlfriend.
What was that supposed to mean? She'd never considered selling herself.
The third time they met, Shi Xiao resolutely signed the contract and accepted Lu Mingchuan's proposal.
So what if she had to bend for a few bowls of rice? She could be flexible. As long as the research institute survived, that was what mattered.

Lu Mingchuan thought this would be a simple win-win arrangement, until he found himself falling too deep.
He buried his face in the crook of her neck and nuzzled her gently. "Didn't you say you'd squeeze a whole building out of me for the research institute? How can you go back on your word?"
No one else would ever earnestly tell him how many different forms of the oracle-bone script character for "Chuan" there were.
He was perfectly happy to lose to her.
At first, Shi Xiao thought the most outrageous thing she'd ever done was agree to pretend to be Lu Mingchuan's girlfriend and sign the contract.
After getting their red marriage certificate, she looked at the two of them leaning against each other on it, looking intimate, and thought marrying Lu Mingchuan was even more outrageous.
Now, Shi Xiao clutched the front of Lu Mingchuan's shirt and tilted her head back to accept his passionate kiss. Nothing could be more outrageous than falling in love with him.
Still, her grip on his shirt tightened. Love has never made any sense. If it's outrageous, so be it.
