A flirtatious yandere × a gentle schemer
While investigating a strange case, Qin Heng, a junior official at the Court of Judicial Review, follows the trail to an abandoned mansion on the outskirts of Chang'an.
The manor is deserted and overgrown with weeds. He pushes open the door and sees bones strewn across the floor, and a dazed young girl among the corpses.
The girl has been frightened out of her wits. Her mind is hazy, and she remembers nothing except that her name contains the character Yao.
With nowhere else to go, she is taken back to Qin Heng's residence to recover, since he suspects she is connected to the case. He investigates in secret.
The girl is sweet and lovable, with a knack for reading people's hearts. In time, Qin Heng develops some dark, selfish feelings of his own.
Then one day, he sees with his own eyes the usually delicate girl pull the golden hairpin from her hair and drive it cleanly into a thief's neck to save him.
Trembling slightly, she takes out a handkerchief and wipes the spots of blood from his face.
The golden hairpin falls, shattering the moonlit stillness.
Her hair is disheveled, her peach-blossom cheeks and apricot-shaped face spattered with blood. She looks eerily beautiful, like the soul-eating demoness from the stories told in the marketplace.
She moves carefully, her voice barely above a whisper.
