Sword Cultivator

Wei Zhen, the greatest sword cultivator in the world, died when his cultivation went awry and his body exploded.

A legend had fallen.

But instead of mourning him, people everywhere started gossiping about an oath he had once made.

“Who remembers Xu Zhi, that promising senior disciple who was once the talk of the sect?”

“The elders wanted Wei Zhen to take Xu Zhi as his disciple.”

“But do you know what Wei Zhen said?”

Wei Zhen, who had faked his death, changed his appearance, and taken to drinking in a tavern, remembered.

Back then, he'd said:

“Xu Zhi has mediocre talent. I'd rather die than take him as my disciple.”

“And then he died!”

“Just goes to show you can't go around making reckless oaths. Xu Zhi has the greatest talent anyone's seen in a hundred years, after all.”

Wei Zhen couldn't see what the two things had to do with each other. Hadn't he simply refused to take Xu Zhi as his disciple?

So he said, “What if Xu Zhi just isn't any good?”

The moment the words left his mouth,

the whole tavern fell silent.

Wei Zhen turned around.

Xu Zhi had appeared in the doorway at some point, his sword radiating murderous intent.

Wei Zhen: “...”
