He Yunxi was the cherished little princess doted on by the Emperor and Empress. She feared nothing, except her refined and aloof Crown Prince brother.
But in the year she turned seventeen, she suddenly learned that she was a fake princess.
The Chu family girl who had entered the palace under the pretext of the selection revealed He Yunxi's true identity. No, Chu Yunxi's identity. She reclaimed her position as princess and became the apple of the remorseful Emperor and Empress's eyes.
As for Chu Yunxi, she lost all favor in an instant, falling from the clouds into the mud, and was about to be sent back to the Chu family.
The birth mother who had switched them had long since passed away. Chu Yunxi knew that life back with the Chu family would be difficult.
The Emperor and Empress shut their doors to her, so she went to the Crown Prince.
Chu Yunxi knelt beside He Yuan's desk and begged humbly, "Crown Prince, could you ask the Empress to let me stay?"
He Yuan lifted her delicate chin with a ruler. His gaze darkened as he looked at the redness in the corners of her eyes. "Who are you calling your brother?"
After returning from the Crown Prince's study, Chu Yunxi packed her bags in tears that very night.
But early the next morning, an imperial decree from the Empress arrived, allowing her to stay in the capital as a palace candidate for the Eastern Palace.
Chu Yunxi thought the Empress couldn't bear to turn her away after all.
However, the very next day as a palace candidate, she regretted it and went crying straight to the Empress.
He Yuan hurried to Kunning Palace as soon as court ended, but he was still too late.
The moment he entered, he saw Chu Yunxi tugging at her collar and pointing to the conspicuous red marks on her fair neck as she cried to the Empress, "Mother, I don't want to be a palace candidate anymore. Crown Prince, my brother, bullied me!"
