Qingye Castle West, the volleyball club's indoor training court.
Suddenly, a tremendous bang! The tightly shut doors were flung open, and their sides slammed into the walls with a thud from the momentum, then bounced back, trembling as they made a few faint, rattling sounds.
Everyone was startled by the deafening noise and turned to stare at the entrance in unison.
Someone stood right in the middle of the doorway, arms spread wide against the white light. His expression was impossible to make out, yet somehow he hit everyone with an overwhelmingly arrogant presence, as if a king were welcoming his subjects' reverent gazes.
Who was that? Everyone squinted in confusion.
The figure spoke.
"So this is the famous volleyball school that's lost to Shiratorizawa for six years straight! The eternal runner-up, Aoba Johsai?"
His voice rang out, crystal clear and loud, echoing again and again through the enclosed indoor court.
Eternal runner-up, runner-up, up, up...
At first, everyone: (￢_￢)
Then, everyone: (╬◣д◢)
What?! Huh!!!!!
"What did this guy just say?! I'm gonna beat him to a pulp!"
"We've got a match coming up. Calm down!"
"Where'd this little punk come from?! Get over here! Let's settle this!"
"You calm down, too!"
"I can't take it anymore! He's trash-talking us right to our faces! He's dancing on my face!"
"No good! We can't hold him back!"
"Then go get a sack ready. Don't forget to turn off the lights!"
Facing the furious glares of the crowd, the figure didn't back down. Instead, he strode forward, one determined step at a time.
At last, the white light receded, revealing him completely.
He was a tall boy with black hair and red eyes, grinning with wild, exuberant confidence and showing a hint of a canine tooth. He pointed at himself with his thumb and continued:
"I'm Aono Shohi. You can call me Da Fei."
"Starting today, I'm the one who's going to change your fate."
"With me here, we'll beat Shiratorizawa and take first place in the nation!"
Has this kid never been beaten up in his life?!
But from that day on, a new volleyball monster appeared in Miyagi Prefecture. He would become the biggest wildcard at that year's Spring High.
