After death, souls embark on the road to reincarnation.
Some, however, die with too much resentment and gradually become wandering spirits trapped in this world, causing all kinds of supernatural incidents.
To protect social order and innocent civilians, and to punish those responsible for vicious crimes, the state established a special department dedicated to handling paranormal incidents.
The Institute for Supernatural Phenomena Research.
Also known as the Feng Shui Research Institute. It trains specialists to do specialized work.
Gu Yuan is beautiful but ill-tempered. Three thousand years ago, she was a double-sided paper kite. She was later buried as a grave good in a little princess's coffin.
When she was little, Gu Yuan once borrowed ten copper coins from a Taoist priest by the roadside to buy steamed buns. She wrote an IOU and stamped it as proof.
When Gu Yuan climbed out of her coffin, she discovered that the descendant of her creditor's descendant's descendant's descendant's descendant's descendant's descendant had brought the IOU to collect the debt.
But can someone explain why there are so many zeros after the amount on the IOU?
Thousands of years had passed. Those ten copper coins had long since multiplied with interest, and Gu Yuan was penniless. Was she supposed to pay him back with the little princess's money?!
Li Kumu: "Sorry, but the IOU was passed down to me by my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather. He told me to collect today, so I hope you'll honor it."
Gu Yuan: "I don't have any money. And you can't kill me, so why not think of something else?"
Li Kumu: "..."
Li Kumu: "How about you work off the debt? I'll appoint you as a feng shui master at the Feng Shui Research Institute. What do you say?"
Gu Yuan: "...Are you crazy? I don't know anything about feng shui."
Li Kumu: "Not so. This is a way to save people."
The Feng Shui Research Institute had been around for over twenty years, handling all kinds of strange incidents around the world.
At some point, a mysterious force began organizing itself and manufacturing "wandering spirits." These unusual energy beings were far more powerful and dangerous, and many staff members had fallen in the line of duty.
In recent years, the number of "feng shui masters" had plummeted. They had all perished inside energy fields.
To investigate the matter thoroughly, Li Kumu traveled thousands of miles with a letter from his ancestors to find this great demon, a double-sided paper kite who had never been recorded in any book. He planned to force her to acknowledge the IOU and pay her debt.
Li Kumu: "Don't even get me started. I'm terrified of facing a great demon too!"
Fortunately, Gu Yuan was a great demon who always kept her word. She led her team, unraveled one mystery after another, overcame every obstacle, and slaughtered her way through danger-filled energy fields, finally catching the mysterious organization by the tail.
And so, the state-appointed feng shui master officially took up her post.
At first, Gu Yuan was a beautiful, helpless young woman with no professional knowledge. She ignored all the mockery around her. It was hilarious: human lifespans passed in the blink of an eye for her. She saw them as infants, and what was there to hold against children?
Later, Gu Yuan killed anyone who stood in her way, be they Buddha or god. No one could stop her. With a kite string in hand, she'd strangle as many as it took. If they didn't want to go peacefully to the underworld for a bowl of Grandma Meng's soup, then Gu Yuan knew a thing or two about fighting.
