Before Civilization Rebooted

A fearless, resilient kitchen disaster * elegant in public and domestic at home, a lofty beauty

(She's only a lofty beauty in name. She's truly a kitchen disaster.)

When Tu Jingsheng was twenty-five, he conducted an experiment that saved someone who was terminally ill and on the brink of death. He became famous overnight.

A year later, the volunteer who took part in the experiment disappeared without a trace.

Two years after that, a plague suddenly broke out on Earth. Within days, corpses covered the land. The apocalypse had arrived.

Tu Jingsheng and the other survivors unexpectedly arrive at Enaida, a hidden interstellar refuge in the universe that houses billions of citizens. They think they've found hope, but it turns out to be the beginning of a massive conspiracy.

Here, Tu Jingsheng is forced to livestream, while Mo Ci, his assistant, is in fact the world-famous head of Enaida's Interstellar Diplomatic Headquarters.

A mysterious "welcoming ceremony" overwrites everyone's memories. Only Tu Jingsheng escapes it thanks to Mo Ci, becoming an undercover agent in a place subject to layers of surveillance.

Only then does he realize that this seemingly well-behaved foreign minister is not quite what he imagined.

Tu Jingsheng is useless at daily life and nearly starves to death in his room. Mo Ci personally takes him out to find food, saying in a cool voice, "The Director gave the order. He was afraid you'd starve."

Mo Ci claims he's only following orders, yet openly flouts the rules and sneaks Tu Jingsheng out through the back door. Tu Jingsheng smiles. "The Director ordered that too?"

When Tu Jingsheng learns that Mo Ci helped him because he wants them to join forces and overthrow the Enaida regime, he gives a cold laugh. What a grand ambition.

Not long afterward, though, gazing at the blue planet standing alone in the universe, Tu Jingsheng suddenly conceives an even greater ambition: to take everyone back to Earth and rebuild civilization.

Mo Ci feels a sense of familiarity the first time he meets Tu Jingsheng. Later, he realizes that when he's by Tu Jingsheng's side, he regains his energy quickly and feels at ease.

For a long time, Tu Jingsheng unknowingly serves as a human charging station.

Much later, in the pitch darkness, Tu Jingsheng sees the person before him speak with earnest gravity: "I've been watching you for a very long time."

On another planet, before disaster struck, before we ever met.

When a civilization is forgotten, it truly perishes.

Fortunately, he isn't the only one who remembers.

The first glimmer of dawn shines down. Everything falls silent, and civilization begins anew.

One-on-one, both are each other's first and only, happy ending.
