As the leader of the Demon Cult, Qu He spends every day reflecting on whether he's done enough evil, made a big enough impact, and made the story exciting enough.
He never expects retribution to come so soon. His nemesis, Tan Yuanmu, runs him through the heart with a sword, and he falls into a pool of blood.
Tan Yuanmu is the foremost practitioner of the Heartless Dao in the Taoya Sect for the past hundred years. Countless talented young men clamor for the chance to catch a distant glimpse of his face.
Pinned down, Qu He looks up at Tan Yuanmu's devastatingly beautiful face and suddenly gets the urge to play a prank.
He shakily raises a hand to touch the other's cheek, then sheds a tear.
"I have no regrets, dying by your hand."
"I've... always loved you."
His arm falls. In his lifeless eyes, Tan Yuanmu's shock and helplessness are reflected.
Qu He: Yes! Plan accomplished!
-
When Qu He opens his eyes again, he hasn't gone to the underworld to face the Judge. Instead, he's in a cave piled high with rare treasures. He tries to move his wrist, and a long chain rattles crisply.
Wait a minute, why are there chains?
Qu He looks toward the sound and meets Tan Yuanmu's bloodshot eyes nearby. Feeling suddenly guilty, he immediately pretends to have lost his memory. "Who... who are you? Why am I tied up?"
Tan Yuanmu stares at him for a long time before coming over to unlock his chains. As he moves, a shocking wound is visible on his neck. "It's better if you forget. From now on... don't love me again."
"Why?" Qu He instinctively grabs his wrist and feels his breath wavering. His heart skips a beat.
"I've already lost all my martial arts and my meridians are completely broken. I'm about to die."
Tan Yuanmu says calmly.
"But you're not dead yet, so you should hear this, Cult Leader Qu."
Tan Yuanmu smiles beautifully. Ignoring Qu He's stunned expression, he says with satisfaction,
"I'm the one who's been in love with you all along."
-
Qu He sits up in the middle of the night, unable to sleep. He thinks, whoever deceives others will be deceived in turn. This kid must be lying to me, too. No need to take it seriously!
The next day, news spreads throughout the city that Tan Yuanmu has been ambushed and gravely wounded.
When Qu He arrives, Tan Yuanmu is wiping down his sword.
He suddenly wonders if his life-bound sword really is incompatible with him. He's testing it against his wrist when a thud comes from the steps at the entrance.
Qu He rushes to stop him, but even after tripping, he clings to his wrist with all his might, eyes reddening as he chokes up, unable to speak.
Tan Yuanmu: Uh-oh. I took the joke too far.
-
Later, one time when they are sharing a bed,
Tan Yuanmu: I love you.
Qu He (springs up in a panic): Oh my god, don't scare me! Who tried to assassinate you this time? Did you go into qi deviation? Are your enemies after you? Did you choke on water, or did you get a terminal illness? Don't die!
Tan Yuanmu: ...

Coming soon: The CEO Begged Me Not to Die
Blurb:
Shi Li is poor. His first job after college is to be a substitute lover for Chu Lingzhao, the eldest son of the Chu family, always on call and unfailingly obedient.
Chu Lingzhao is demanding and picky, with the temper of a spoiled young master. But Shi Li is completely unaffected, taking everything in stride. Even when wine is thrown in his face to make things difficult, he only smiles.
Even in a white shirt made almost transparent by wine, he looks as elegant as if he were attending a banquet.
News arrives that the one Chu Lingzhao has always loved is about to return home. A message suddenly appears on Shi Li's phone:
"What time are you getting to the airport tonight? I'll come pick you up."
It's obvious the message was sent to the wrong person.
Shi Li looks toward Chu Lingzhao, who's in the conference room nearby. He has just put down his phone and seems to be in a good mood.
Shi Li doesn't go back in to embarrass himself. He leaves his resignation letter at the edge of the desk, then takes one last look at the ring Chu Lingzhao casually tossed him. He removes it and leaves it on the desk, too.
And just like that, Shi Li disappears from Chu Lingzhao's world.
Every now and then, Shi Li hears news from that side. The eldest son of the Chu family didn't get together with the one he loved. Instead, he's practically turned all of City A upside down looking for a widow.
Shi Li thinks, as long as it has nothing to do with him, that's fine.
One day, he steps outside and sees a familiar figure standing in his yard. Chu Lingzhao, the young master who has never had to lift a finger, has been worn out by a long journey and looks a complete mess. But his eyes are bright as he gazes at Shi Li.
"Don't stay here. Come home with me, please..."
"There's no need," Shi Li says with a smile, in an unusually good mood.
"Chu Lingzhao, I'm going to die soon."
