Jade in a Cage

[Peasant-born New Emperor x Discarded Consort of the Previous Dynasty]

The celebrated Su family heiress, Su Ruofu, caught the emperor's eye, and an imperial decree naming her a consort arrived at the Su residence the very next day.

The emperor was debauched and depraved. Following the example of his predecessors, he had built a pleasure garden in the palace and spent every day reveling.

Su Ruofu was the most radiant hibiscus on the branch. Sending her into the palace was tantamount to destroying a flower, and everyone in the capital lamented her fate.

Afterward, whenever anyone mentioned the talented and beautiful woman, all they could say was: What a shame.

Su Ruofu wandered through the palace like a walking corpse. Though her beauty was unmatched, she soon fell out of favor and could only hope to spend the rest of her life there.

Qin Jiuyuan led the rebel army in capturing the palace. The emperor fled south with his ministers, leaving all the women of the harem kneeling at Qin Jiuyuan's feet, their lives entirely in his hands.

Impatient, Qin Jiuyuan glanced at the crowd of women and waved his hand.
