Dazai, Don't You Want Your Son Anymore?

Mr. Mori was strolling along the beach when he found an unconscious boy by the roadside.

Since he wasn't a girl, the scummy adult, Mr. Mori, was about to ignore him. But Alice grabbed him and said, "This kid looks a lot like Dazai."

"?"

The boy looked like he'd crawled out of a garbage pile, filthy from head to toe. Mr. Mori gave him a quick wash and got a good look at his face. His eyes lit up. Then he glanced at Alice beside him and realized she was gone.

"Did I just pick up another little Dazai?"

Mr. Mori happily took the boy home.

"Dazai, when did you get a son?"

Edogawa suddenly opened his eyes and asked Dazai, who was listening to music on the sofa.

"Huh?"

Dazai took off his headphones and said helplessly, "How could I possibly have a son?"

Edogawa opened the window and pointed at the boy below. "Isn't that your son? He looks exactly like you."

Nakajima came over to the window and looked down. "He really does look like Mr. Dazai's son. He looks at least five."

Dazai's face darkened. "...I can't possibly have a son. Even if I did, I couldn't raise him."

Just then, the Armed Detective Agency's door opened.

Nakahara appeared before everyone, holding a boy's hand.

"Cherry, you heard them, right? It's not that we won't take you to find your dad. Your dad doesn't want you. But don't worry, the boss would be happy to be your dad."

Inspired by Osamu Dazai's short story "Cherry."

The boy is named Cherry. He's five years old, well-behaved and sensible, and physically fragile. The whole of Yokohama helps raise him.

A warm, everyday story.
