Hidden Affliction

The Gu family was convicted of a crime, and Gu Zhaoning, the youngest daughter of the family, was imprisoned in the imperial jail. After her entire family was executed, Gu Zhaoning was taken to Prince Rui's residence. Prince Rui suffered from a hidden ailment and had a violent temper, and Gu Zhaoning endured unspeakable suffering.

Then a rebel army attacked. Prince Rui and his concubines were taken prisoner, while Gu Zhaoning escaped alone.

Miss Gu, the richest woman in Suzhou, had countless suitors. She had no interest in marriage, but needed heirs to inherit her immense fortune. When someone caught her eye, she would keep him as a lover, then keep the child and send the father away.

Not one of the officials, scholars, or merchants in the whole city caught her fancy. Then one day, a stunningly handsome man passed by and became her bedfellow.

The child was born, and the family fortune had an heir. The child's father not only stayed, but brazenly became the master of the Gu household. Rumors spread among the neighbors that the man had a hidden ailment and often bullied the woman at night. When people asked about it, Miss Gu said nothing, blushing as she pulled her collar closed.
