[Harry Potter] The Oath

Part 1

"Mavis, are you willing to live your whole life as a Shafiq?" A hand as thin as a skeleton clutched the girl's outstretched right hand.

"I am." A thin, dazzling tongue of flame spurted from the wand in the House-elf's hand, like a glowing red-hot wire twining around their clasped hands.

"Are you willing to find a powerful wizard to be your husband and enter into a holy marriage before you turn eighteen?"

"I am."

"Are you willing to successfully give birth to a Shafiq heir before you turn twenty?"

"I am."

"I'm sorry, Mavis, but Professor Snape and I weren't trying to pry into your private affairs." Professor Dumbledore took a crystal vial from Professor Snape and handed it to Mavis.

"You can put your memories about it in here."

Part 2

"What have you been hiding?" Snape grabbed Mavis's hand and roughly pushed up her sleeve. The three fine scarlet threads from years ago had now become two ominous black-red ones.

"It's too late now, Professor. I have regrets, but I've enjoyed every day."

Snape's blank expression instantly turned furious. "If you have regrets, then choose someone! Diggory? Malfoy? Zabini? Or someone from another house!"

Mavis gently shook her head.

"So you really were hiding something! I can't believe you learned to modify memories when you were so young!"

"In that case... Legilimency!"
