I have a strange childhood friend. He was like the wind, appearing and disappearing, until one day he vanished right in front of me.

When we met again, he was still Edogawa, and I was still Fujino Satoshi.

But we couldn't hide how distant we had become.

It was supposed to be a matchmaking dinner for me, but he showed up.

When he scratched his head and gave me an awkward smile, I knew there was no point in continuing the party. I wanted to ask where he'd been and whether he'd been doing well, but I couldn't move my feet or open my mouth. A murder case had interrupted my sentimental moment.

Only after the commotion was over did I snap out of it. In a daze, I lifted my skirts and ran out the door into the rain, calling after him without hesitation.

"Edogawa!"

My voice wasn't clear; it was subdued and hoarse, nothing like it had been when I was young. Yet it instantly broke the dam holding back my memories. They came flooding in.

"Do you like Sherlock Holmes too?" "I love him more than anything!"

"Can you teach me how to solve cases?" "I'll try. You have to try too."

"Edogawa, we're friends, right?" "Of course."

He always responded to everything I said. Except for that one time.

"Edogawa, you're so mysterious. I feel like you might suddenly leave one day."

That one time, he didn't answer. He only gazed silently at the valley.

My thoughts returned to the present. Through the drizzle, I saw him stop and turn around.

When I came closer, he tilted his umbrella toward me.
