Two buttons at his collar were undone, and his long legs were clad in black trousers. The cigarette between his fingers glowed and dimmed. His whole demeanor was tinged with a lazy sensuality.
Li Shengsheng stopped in her tracks, countless thoughts rushing through her mind. Before she could say anything, she saw the corner of his mouth curl into a smile. His voice was low and magnetic as he spoke to the person on the other end of the phone, full of tenderness.
“You still need me to coax you to sleep? I’ll be back a little later. Go to bed first.”

Not long afterward, Li Shengsheng and Jiang Si both showed up at a class reunion.
They sat at opposite ends of the room, like strangers.
After a few rounds of drinks, one of their classmates joked, “Is our campus belle still single? If you are, why not give one of us old classmates a chance?”
Li Shengsheng glanced at Jiang Si, sitting across from her, lowered her eyes, and replied softly, “I have a boyfriend. We’re planning to get married next year.”
Her answer was followed by a brief silence, then everyone offered their congratulations.
Only Jiang Si remained seated without moving, idly turning the wineglass in his hand. His manner was cool and distant, as though none of it had anything to do with him.
It was only after the reunion ended and the noise died down that someone noticed Jiang Si had already drunk himself into a stupor.
His friend couldn’t bear to see him like that and tried to comfort him. “It’s okay. If she’s gone, she’s gone. The next one will be sweeter.”
The man’s eyes reddened slightly. He shook his head and said hoarsely, “There won’t be a next one. There’s only her.”
